Alternator tensioner interchange
Alternator tensioner interchange
Hi.
My 93 Maxima GXE with 90A alternator when for 110,000 miles 13 years and diode dies. Rebuilt alternator for ebay (place in Los Angeles) when 30,000 miles in 6 years and is giving up the ghost.
Got a CarPartsWholesale ebay new (not rebuilt) that a 95A (similar to LR195-701) for the Bose Nissan that has two larger front lugs (12.5mm thicker) --called before ordering and gave VIN but that didn't seem to help.
The new alternator would need at least 2 longer M8(1.25 pitch?x45mm) bolts, but can I use an OEM tensioning bracket from courtsey nissan parts 11715-J30002 ($20) to offset the 12 mm extra thickness of the new alternator? Or can I stick a 12mm shim/block under the current bracket and use a longer bolt(M8x1.25x25mm)? Any premade, drilled shims?
Local parts stores said their lifetime warranty is free replacement during the first 3 years. Expect 4 years before the rebuilt alternator dies. I want to use a new alternator. There's also new TYC alternators for $150. Any good?

After looking the mounts and alternator lugs over, it can be done except for grinding each of the alternator's 2 lug down a half inch. Moving over the adjustment bracket will get in the way of the AC belt. Too much modification and voiding the warranty. I found a new direct replacement (TYC brand) on Amazon for $110 including shipping.
The wrong part one (for SE instead of GXE) is being returned gratis.
If the fit chart doesn't distinguish between the SE and GXE alternator watch out.
