Next time you pick on me for hiring a lawyer every time I get a speeding ticket (got 5 out of 5 dismissed,) think about this.

I got two tickets this year, and decided to just pay them, to take the lazy way.

Well I got my insurance renewal premium notice today, and my rates JUST ON MY TRUCK have gone up $400 per year. I can't wait to get my renewal for the car.

My agent told me the surcharge will stay for three years. Assuming the surcharge is about the same on the car, We are talking about a speeding ticket cost of $1350 each. ($1200 insurance increase each, $200 per ticket per year per vehicle for three years, PLUS $150 fine per ticket)

The lawyer is back on the payroll!!

This is exactly why I fight every single speeding ticket I get. The actual fines are trivial. The real scam is in the insurance premium hikes like this, and that's where it really hurts.

I've successfully negotiated my past 2 speeding tickets down to 5-over/No-points, and the no-points part is what keeps my insurance low. I'm 24, BTW.

How long does it take them so send out a court day notice after you send a hearing request?
I sent mine almost a month ago and still haven't heard anything from the DMV.

yup this is why i fight all my tickets. just because you get a ticket for breaking a ridiculously low standard your insurance company charges your $$$$ for it. stupid.

 

a lot of companies are increasing their rates because of 9/11. My parents are in NYC and all their policies are increasing this year (not just their cars)

mine was 1480 a year when i started with this company... now a little more than a year and a half later its a little over 2000! everytime i ask they say "the rates have gone up" WTF?? i pay $500 more a year, 25% increase because of other people on the road? its not enough for them that we already pay up the a$$, they have to increase us while out record is clean ... id hate to see what would happen if i got a speeding ticket or an accident.. then i ask them to look for a cheaper company because theyre a brokerage.. no they dont find anything cheaper (which i know is BS, why would they want to make less money off of me?) so i found a cheaper company that im going to when my policy is up in 3 months and they can kiss my a$$! man does it pi$$ me off

 

That's BS, notice how they make sure that no money is lost. Insurance companies are fraud. The rich always find a way to F*ck us over, even in tragic situations like 9-11. Man that pi$$es me off!

I believe in hiring a lawyer for your exact reasoning.. $200 now or $20 a month in surcharges for 3 years each ticket!!

 

my broker is dcap... theyre horrible.. they baited me in with 740 for 6 months telling me in a year they might be able to get me down to like 1100 a year... then after each 6 month policy it increased. they also had me go on 6 month policies so they can raise me after 6 months and not a year oh well, after april im droppin them like a bad habit

 

my insurance company can suck deez nutz, i got one ticket in february last year and 1 accident in july, if i had gotten points for the second ticket in July then my insurance would have dropped me, i got off with no points and now they are back at square 1 so F em.

 

It's amazing how so many people are do-it-yourselfers here, but in certain things they are willing to waste money. What can a lawyer do for you in a traffic violation that you can't do for yourself? Let me give a real example. A friend got caught DWAI in New York in the early 90's. That is over .05 and under .1 BAC. I told him you don't need a lawyer, just go and plead. He was too scared, thought a lawyer could hold his hand and make him feel better. The first lawyer said $675 and he's looking at a suspension, no way around it. The 2nd lawyer said you don't need me. When you get .1 or over, it's a misdemeanor, so a lawyer will get you a DWAI (non-criminal) charge on your first offense ie plead it down. Since he got the lower charge of DWAI up-front, even Harry Houdini can't lower the charge (can't go from alcohol-related to parking ticket--statute prevents it). In essence, he didn't need a lawyer, and the 2nd guy was willing to be up front.

Already the insurance industry is a sham, why do a double-whammy and pay a lawyer on top of that. For traffic? All the people I know went in on their own, and in MOST cases they still paid a fine in $$$ but they avoided points. Any lawyer who claims they guarantee that for a fee is full of it. They can't do anything on a plain violation that you can't do yourself.

Where you need a lawyer is in cases the penalty is wide-open, not where the outcome is predictable. Just my opinion.

 

I've gotten a lawyer before. Cost $250, help, none. Not his fault, but judge pretty much sided with the officer, let them go to their office to get the piece of paper to verify the radar detector was accurate, etc... they reduced my bill, but still went on the record. So it doesn't always help.

Yes, there are times when lawyers are needed. It's unfortunate. For the study of law, and the true administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good government, e pluribus unum, and don't forget justice is the firm and continuous desire to render every man his due.

But seriously, a lawyer is needed when a person is facing criminal charges, a civil lawsuit, or closing on a home. Not speeding tickets. C'mon now.

$100 PLUS getting arrested- reduced to 50 bucks and continued on the FAILURE TO STOP FOR A POLICE OFFICER, and 50 in a 30

all this in under 2 years.

 

They must recognize you in court by now!
