Bully Dog GT Gsa Tuner

Hey guy's I just wanted to know is it worth it to buy this Bully Dog for my Maxima? Does it really advance the timing +2, removes the governor and gives you a full throttle after 100Mph?

Let me know because I don't want to throw my money away .

Yes, it will do all that. I enjoy my BullyDog, you can set you RPM, maximum MPH, not that you will go that fast but you can set it. Plus you can monitor your critical systems on the fly.

+2 timing is nice, but +4 timing is awesome! I like to mess with the timing from time to time. Makes for fun weekend driving.

Timing refers to the event when the piston makes contact with the spark plug in your engine cylinder, which is also known as top dead center (TDC) if I'm not mistaken. At zero timing adjustment, the spark will ignite when the piston reaches TDC.

Advanced timing is when the spark ignites before the piston reaches TDC. As the piston moves in the engine, air is compressed and such. +2 timing advance ignites that volume of air and fuel at a point where the compression allows for higher power gains. I'm not sure if this has to do anything with piston head compression ratings though.

Usually for naturally aspirated motors, advanced timing is benefitial. I do +4 sometimes which is actually still in the safe timing range for the VQ35DE.

For turbo and other forced induction motors, I've read that retarded timing, say - 2 timing, is actually better since the motor is being forced with more air to compress instead of relying on the internal piston chamber pressures.

Hope that helps. Anyone, feel free to chime in.

Does the bully dog work on the 4th gen maxima? Or just the apexi vafc2 for our cars?

What performance increases do you notice at +2 and +4? Is it good enough to spend the money? Better throttle responce, more HP ...etc

Sharper throttle response. A nice kick at low rpms and a definite harder pull in the higher revs. Definitely can feel more G forces with the +4 timing.

Can't measure the hp. But the butt dyno does show results.

Not sure if it'll work on older gen maximas. You may need to check their site.

Is it worth the money? For $300, its not bad. It's a decent and lesser alternative to the much more expensive UpRev.

Where did you get it for $300? I saw $450-$500+..
Is it easy plug and play?

No impact on mpg really. I get 20 in the city and 26 on the highway goin 70ish.

I want to note that timing advance doesn't give more hp overall, it just shifts the powerband up. Meaning more hp at lower rpms.

Does it have to live in the car? Can i plug it in re-program and remove it?

I have the wiring installed in my car. Just a plug into the OBD port and into the fuse. I tucked the wiring back under the dash so you can't even see it.

You don't need to keep the tuner unit always connected. I keep mine in the glove compartment for when I feel like doing a quick "reprogram".

It's not always live. You can keep it live to monitor things... But I just use it periodically to adjust my timing from time to time. So much time!! Haha.

In theory, could a piggyback like this advance timing at the lower RPMs, then advance it less as RPMs increase to get more power "under the curve"?

Nah.. timing is advanced throughout the entire powerband.

On older cars, timing is changed mechanically affecting piston position and spark ignition. I dont think it is possible to achieve multiple types of timing while the car is in motion.

The GT Tuner does not allow any multiple timing change over certain RPM ranges.

Anyone wanna take a stab at WHY the spark timing is so precisely set where it is? I.e., why Nissan would not have just advanced the timing curve by 2º or 4º BTDC more than what they did?

A possibility could be fuel octane.

Nissan Maxima 2016 issues with tuner

So I have a 2016 máxima and I bought a bully dog gt platinum gas tuner for some reason it won’t let me load the tune. The tech line said I need to maintain my voltage at 12.9 to 13.1 has any one had this issue and what did you do to fix it?

The web site says to hook up a trickle charger to the battery to maintain the necessary voltage, and make sure all of your other electronics is turned off.
