Pay for a shop to get the motor put together? Or engine swap?

My car has a few electronic problems so I assumed it was the EGR tube. I tried taking it all apart but I couldn't get a pipe off and something bent. I looked at the EGR tube and it is very clean for having 170k miles on it.

So the car has been in my driveway for the past 6 months and I miss it. I don't remember where everything goes and I don't really want to mess with it anymore. I just want to pay to get it fixed or swapped.

The cheapest method obviously would be the most appealing so what is a better thing to do? Pay for a shop to figure out why I have no power and put it all back together? Or order an engine from a Nissan junkyard and have them install it? How much would each option cost?

Thanks for the offer but I just want to get it done with. I have an old motorcycle and Datsun 280Z in the garage that I also need to piece together.

I am by Sacramento. Maybe some recommended shops would be great too

Post in the regional forums as you'll get a better response, both for recommendations and possibly someone who can assist locally. Otherwise use some map search and just start calling down the list. Double or triple check for reviews before jumping at the first low ball offer.

well the engine is about 650 and add labour for a swap. you could also share this electrical issue and someone here can point you in the right direction so then you could take it to a shop and have it fixed and not pay extra for the mechanic to look for the problem.

Everything in NY costs more. That's why my g/f and most of her family left there.

I can understand your feeling but having taken the entire EGR system apart on my Max iris that difficult to piece it back together. If I was local to you I could point out where all parts go. Then it is a matter of an hour or two to piece it back together.

Sounds like myself as a child. Take it apart, don't know how to put it back together. Let dad figure it out.

Yep! Just like a child! That is totally me. The issue for me is that I might have bent something in the engine that I don't want to deal with. I'm just afraid that the possibly bent piece combined with new parts needed to be purchased would be more costly than having the engine swapped in the first place.

I just want the car to be running again. I live in Williams so I am not so sure these Sacramento guys could help but I will try.

So about $800 for the swap?

What about just going to a junkyard and pulling all of the EGR stuff off, take pictures as you go, and just reassemble it on your motor when you get home.

Swapping an entire engine to fix an EGR problem doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

Buying a junkyard motor is popular when your current one is toast, because it cant be any worse than what you got. But buying one to replace one thats fine other than the EGR isnt so good. Junkyards often lie about the mileage on the engine, and you cant really check the ODO on our cars without a battery and the keys... so you are at their mercy.
