What you do is;
1) Push in clutch pedal and get off gas
2) Pull tranny into neutral
3) Release clutch pedal
4) Rev the gas once
5) Push the clutch pedal in
6) Select new gear
7) Release clutch pedal and hit the gas

The only time you would double-clutch and GAIN anything is a transmission with no synchromesh. Either a 1940's truck or a hardcore race tranny (where the only gain is longevity, certainly not speed)
sorry, only works on manual transmissions and it's hollywood script crap, cause with todays synchomesh transmissions, you really don't have to double clutch....however you can, but it takes practice, the pedals (brake and accelerator) have to be placed just right, but if you do it, its SWEET.
It is usually used during braking to downshift so you are in the proper gear for the next turn. You press on the brake with your 1/2 of your right foot, depress the clutch, put it into neutral,let up on the clutch while still braking hard, rev the engine a bit with the other half of your right foot (gear still in neutral), depress clutch and downshift from neutral into the gear you want, let up on the clutch while blipping the throttle again to match revs and you are in....SWEET.

no - heel to toe shifting is different - thats explained more throughly on www.maximadriver.com
If you shift when your engine RPMs match the RPM your engine WOULD BE AT for whatever gear you are GOING INTO at whatever speed you are at, you can shift without using the clutch. Its hard to do. I've done it a few times but its kindof hit or miss... I can get it about 50% of the time, not that I've tried it that much.

All true. I think maybe some modern commercial trucks still need this too.I was going to wonder about clutchless shifting along with Lucent, but I type too slow!
Dumb hollywood script writers. Double clutching should not be confused with heel-and-toe shifting (mentioned above), which is for good shifting while making a corner, or power shifting, which is for hardcore accelleration. Power shifting is when you can operate the clutch and shifter so fast you can shift without letting off on the gas and complete the shift before the engine redlines. You can hear this in movies like (I dunno... Bullit with Steve McQueen!
) where they're accellerating like nuts and you hear the engine rev for a split second. Doing it wrong, however ("missing a shift") is how you blow up things! (I don't try this btw!)
In a 4th Gen Maxima you can shift from 2nd to 3rd without the clutch very easily..
when you are driving in second.. get of the gas.. bang 2nd to 3rd without thinking about it.. and it will go right in.. this is the only gear i know of that will work at any RPM .. so don't go trying every damn gear

My Yamaha FJ1200 shifts so sweet without the clutch. Just click vrooom click vroooom click vroooom. Then I usually have to slow down. That $ucker is fast as $hit. 1200cc of RICE power!
