For months my gas gauge has read incorrectly. Sometimes it would read correctly (I know this because when it did read correctly it was usually after a fill-up).

Is this affecting my MPG or am I just going crazy? I also need to know a fix. I've been told on here it's a problem with the fuel sender unit. Also, I'm not sure on the exact steps to diagnose or fix this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

you havent read enough, the problem is not the fuel sender, the problem is the entire gauge cluster, keep reading on. its not affecting your MPG its a problem in the stepper motor inside the cluster for the fuel gauge. theres threads on how to test the sender unit with a multimeter just to confirm.

 

i have the same issue but it works most of the time what i do is reset my trip meter once it gets to a certain amount of miles i fill up 2 be safe and then i calculate my mpgs
