Straight cut gears are an option when building one, link somewhere here.. But your first and second should be quiet just like the rest..Your noise may indicate a problem.

I'd check the gear oil level.

They are stronger, but I've never seen a maxima with broken gears. Probably not worth the trouble or price.

There are plenty of maxima with broke gears. There used to be a lot how high power heavy racers in the maxima platform. The trans has always been one of the biggest set backs. There are only two Maxima trans with PPG straight cut gear set that I know of Nealoc187 owns one and the other was in 96sleeper car not sure where that trans is, but I'd love to have it. Daily bolt on maxima will not need them, however great to pair with the almighty Quaife for serious high power racers. Neal has thrown plenty of power at his trans and he still does.

I'm going to bet you have bad input shaft bearings if your tranny is whining in 1st and 2nd.

no, you don't need straight cut gears. they whine horribly and are stupid annoying for a daily driver. for a race car, just fine. but if you're asking questions like these, you don't own a race car...

I have noticed the first and the second gears that are sounding like what your saying, It sounds like an American car that's Supercharged. Whining whistling sound.
