short ram vs stock airbox

hi guys i build a custom short ram intake but i thinking to put it back to stock airbox beacause ''warm'' air intake suck warm air as hell. the filter cone is hot when touching it... so what are your opinion??

a cone filter that suck warm air but more airflow

or stock airbox with colder air but less airflow...

im thinking to put a K&N filter to the stock airbox instead the stock restrictive one ...

and a injen cold air intake are too expensive to me

thanks for your advice

Looking at your signature, it looks like you had enough money for:
mods:
-catback stainless exhaust 2.25" and 4" tip with megan racing test pipe
-H.I.D xentec 35w 8000k in hi/low beam
Why not wait a bit longer for the upgrade?
Have you tried searching? I'm sure this has been discussed before.
Don't forget that other components in the engine will also warm the air as well, since there are also factors of heat soak.
Also, it looks like you built your own custom intake. Why not try your hand at it again?

An intake thread? Say it isn't so.

Don't bother with an injen anyways, its trash.

Given your other mods, you should be fine with a coat hanger GAB.

I think it's pretty well known that SRI's don't do a whole lot for performance so there's always the option for the GAB method.

I like to hear a little bit of growl if I get on it so I mocked up a SRI a couple of weeks ago and have been loving it. My butt dyno doesn't really feel any loss in power, and perhaps it's just a placebo effect from the sound, but it actually appears to pull a little harder at high RPM's in conjunction with the NWP BOP.

Mine is as follows:

(3") Berk stainless steel mid pipe, MAF, "350z" MAF aluminum MAF adapter plate (matches up exactly), Blox bellmouth style velocity stack (3"-6"), and a 6" AEM dryflow filter.

After some, shall we say 'spirited' runs up and down an open stretch of road, the whole intake tube assembly, including the filter was decently cool, well cool enough to touch with your hand and definitely not hot. Results in a super deep throaty sound too that I can't get enough of. Just be sure not to overtighten the clamp on the filter to the bellmouth or you could risk the filter popping off. Ask me how I figued that out

Here is a pic. All stainless hardware and T-Bolt style clamps from Napa.

How much did it cost to piece together the velocity stack and filter? Cheaper than buying the JWT?

It was $58.69 (including shipping) for both the AEM filter + velocity stack. Another $9.75 for the MAF adapter.

I was looking for a MAF for a very long time and finally just got the auto parts store universal aluminum one and cut my own holes. Takeda used to make a 4th gen one that is nice but they no longer do. I might get this one assuming it will fit as flush on the 4th gen MAF as well. I just like how it is shaped around instead of just square

...and I got the midpipe for $50, (could have been $40 if I went to the next town over to pick it up, but I gave him a $10 delivery fee) + all the silicone couplers and clamps and still came out ahead over the JWT Pop Charger.

Altogether came to about $125 give or take a couple bucks.

That is the one I got, not sure if it will fit 4th gen as all the other models listed are VQ35. Maybe someone else can chime in on if they have the same bolt pattern. I'm super impressed with the quality of the ebay one though, even the inside port looked identical to the stock MAF opening.

good price and it looks good too and not everyone can say that about their SR set up. I try to keep mine looking as stock as possible so I painted my pipe with ceramic black paint as well. Thinking about getting one of these as well after hearing several people using them. http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...w+Straightener. Possibly snake oil but in theory it would help

that linked one is nice. Like I said there are none to speak of for the 4th gen. 5th gen is a different MAF but it cannot be that different but even a few mm off would make a terrible disruption. For $10 I might just jump because it appears a lot thicker than my current adapter. Still the wrong shape though, 4th gen guys are just out of luck

I removed my short ram, Berk WAI today after having it on my car for ~8 years. When driving to work this afternoon with the OEM intake setup reinstalled, the throttle felt quite a bit more responsive on the top end. Down low, I didn't really notice much difference.

thx a lot guys for your advice...

pearl93VE your setup look very clean !

im thinking to buy this 6'' and the ''midpipe'' beacause i still got the ''resonator plastic thing''...

at this time im not proud of my custom intake loll i put a steel 3'' exhaust tip and took the ''adapter'' in the stock airbox and ive modify it and glued it with the exhaust tip (to make the MAF adapter rofl) and for the temperature sensor i drill a hole into the 3'' cone filter rubber to put it in

im thinking of doing a better job like pearl93VE, your picture help me alot

i will check out on ebay for all this stuff
