So my spoiler is REALLY loose on the left side (driver). Last time I used some solvent/bondo and it worked okay for about 3 months and now its loose again. I checked the other side and it looks like its somehow zip-tied and I guess the guy I bought it from zip tied the spoiler lol. I looked under the carpet in the truck and there are no bolts and when looking at the spoiler there are no holes for bolts. - Its all COMPLETELY rusted and I think thats why my original idea of gluing the thing together ended up failing. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, other than getting a new spoiler? I'll post a pic in the morning

 

I got a new one after someone ran into the back of me and it is loose as fawk. Has a lifetime warranty on the repairs and have been thinking about going back but my trunk is lined with dynamat now and I dont want to throw that money down the drain to fix something that doesnt really bother me.

 

delete the spoiler, and grommet up the holes. honestly the design for these spoilers is stupid as hell. it shoulda been bolts at all four mounting points. the clips combined with double sided tape thing is hard to get back to perfect once you take it off.

if its ziptied on, you likely need a new one, which you dont want to buy. or a new decklid, which is worse. but without pics im sorta just guessing ya know?

when i painted my car my spoiler never went on perfectly again, because i piano wired through the clips and could never find replacements. i used that as an excuse to get an ionic dynamics spoiler, and i grommeted up the outer mounting points.

Those outer pedestals were poorly designed. Only the inner pedestals are bolted. The outer pedestals are just clipped into grommets. Check out my thread to get an idea of how it mounts:

If the trunk openings for the outer pedestal grommets are still square and not heavily rusted then try replacing those clips and grommets. I have them for sale along with new OEM gaskets. You'll just need to purchase 1 more clip 01553-04631.

 

I bet the insides of your trunk where the spoiler mounts is completely rusted the fkuc out. Fix it now or you'll be needing a new trunk lid soon, basically it's just collecting water like a can and spreading the cancer.

 

1- remove spoiler
2- cut out rust
3- determine if the spoiler can cover the holes
4- get rtv sealer or some type of gasket making material
5- figure out how to get bolts onto that spoiler in the center 2 pedestals
6- fab up mounting plates for the inside of the trunk
7- make gaskets for all 4 pedestals and bolt the spoiler down

-in theory, if the gaskets are good enough it should never rust again

 

To each his own I guess. I feel the same way about the spoiler being "on" the car, it was one of the things I hated most about it, made the rear of the car look even heavier and all it does is add aero drag.

Took a while but I found a clean 98 without the wing and did the conversion, looks right finally.

 

Yeah the inside is rusted as shi* and the question whether I would be able to install the mounts when parts rusted.. heres another link it has everything for like 6 bucks:

But what exactly would I need for this... I don't want to take the whole spoiler apart I just want an easy fix solution. The right side of the spoiler is in perfectly and I'm afraid if I take that side out then it'll be the same as the left and will never be able to put it back in properly...

 

Go to junkyard
buy new trunklid
ditch the rusty lid
profit..

 

If you're not up to removing the spoiler because it's too heavily rusted then do what tiger suggested and get a lid from the JY. That would be your only EASY FIX solution because rust is a permanent virus that will keep getting worse if you don't totally remove it.
