Transmission Issue/Only 95,000 miles

1997 with only 95,000 miles. Under WOT, when I first put the pedal to the floor the rpms climb up extremely fast and hit redline within 1 or 2 seconds. The car doesnt really go anywhere, at least not nearly as fast as the rpms would indicate. Redline is accompanied by an extremely hard shift. Car moves fine afterwards. It does not do this if I am at highway speeds. (above 50mph) Transmission shifts fine under all other driving conditions. Fluid is only a couple months old and the level is perfect. Would appreciate if you guys could throw some ideas at me. If necessary I can take a video.

I would record the video and go from there, I would say that you should go and get the codes pulled if any and get the TB,IACV,and so on a cleaning.

At slower speeds, say around 30 mph depressing the accelerator to the floor will cause the trans to downshift. It may hit 1st gear briefly, depending on your speed, causing the instant flair to redline.

From a dead stop it should accelerate hard, quickly up to redline, then shift.

Is this what's going on?
