I have a 1995 Maxima. Im thinkning about upgradeing the head unit.

So i have a 1995 nissan maxima se bose edition. I want to get a jensen vm9225bt upgrade over the stock head unit. I have heard if i upgrade the hu i might have to bypass the built in amps connected to each speaker. I also want to prove my friend wrong that its an amp connected to each speaker and not a crossover.

Any help and or tips that anyone would have for me would be very much appreciated.

Well, you win. The Bose speakers do each have an amp attached to them. You don't have to rewire the speakers for your headunit, but you will need a wiring harness, obviously, and it wouldn't hurt to get what I believe is called a limiter that limits the power coming from your head unit. This is needed because the OE stereo is not putting out much, if any power to the speakers, and the aftermarket will be powered.

Ok, so i completely understand how to wire a new head unit ive done a few before but i have never heard of a limiter. How would i wire that in?

I think you will need different speakers too. I think Bose speakers have different impedance than normal ones. I am not 100% sure about this but you might want to look into that so you do not run into stupid issues along the way.

It's pretty much a match the colors game. The instructions and labels will be there.

I still have everything wired and I have Bose with an aftermarket. He will be fine if he gets that limiter. Mine are blown and I do want to get a dedicated amp and speaker wires for at least my front component speakers to do the aftermarket speakers right, but it's NOT necessary to get new speakers just because your upgrading your headunit. Your Bose will work just fine. If your headunit has an option for power level, you will want to select low.

Yea ive heard the same thing. Some people say that there will be no issues at all when putting a new head unit in and others say i would have to bypass the amp and wire the speaker directly to the head unit.

Right now im looking to see if the head unit i want has a power level. If it does now how much would a decent limiter cost?

Mine was done at best buy-rip off; but I think they are a little pricy. Less than $50 though.
I have a JVC kamelion<~sp? I wish I would have went with a double din in hindsight.

^^unless I'm mistaken, you will need a harness also. You will also need an antenna adapter. I didn't see that in your linked kit.

There is an audio section in the forums with a lot of experienced people around if you want to try to confirm what you know with them..

Go for it man...I bought a KENWOOD MP3/usb/Aux stereo and here´s what I use for the upgrade:

Antenna adapter
Wire harnesses to adapt from BOSE to aftermarket connectors
No limiter
An aftermarket dash installation kit (They are specific to the brand/model)

I didn´t use the ¨limiter¨but my stereo had the VOLUME OFFSET feature, so I turned all the way down to -8.

It worked wonders, not a single issue, until some idiot broke in and stoled it...But that´s another story...

Have a blast!

Is the aftermarket dash installation kit the metal sleeve for the HU?

No, the metal sleeve is from Nissan, you should have it installed already. The kit is the plastics parts that connect your stereo to the metal sleeve and fill all the voids...The BOSE std HU is double DIN, and in my case I bought a single DIN aftermarket stereo, so there was a void and this kit includes an storage bin to fiil it.

OP go for it the OEM HU sucks and does not do the Bose speakers justice.

I recently installed a $55 dual 8150 w/bluetooth/usb/sd and used the scosche nissan/infinitely adapter for $19.00 from Crutcfiled with my HU and works great but not sure I needed it. I also used install kit and antanae adapter kit included for free from Crutchfield. I added a bazooka bt1016 sub with a cheap 150rms dual 2100 2 channel amp I bought off Ebay and it it sounds awesome for a car with 13 year old speakers. For less than $250 my car rocks!
