As some of you know.. My maxima has not moved in months due to a license suspenion but I start it up for around 10 minutes a couple times a week just to keep things moving a bit. A few days ago the car started without a problem with the SES light on. It has had a stutter every 5-10 seconds at idle the past few months but it was never major enough to be concerned about. Now it has gotten a little worse and I mean just a bit. A rough "spurt" of random vibration is felt at idle. Is this a misfire? Sparkplugs? Would a gaping hole in my rear section contribute to this?

 

Pull the codes. That will likely answer any and all questions you have.

I'm leaning towards a faulty coil pack. Gonna need codes to confirm, but that is my prediction.

That's understandable. Btw, it never hurts to buy your own code reader, too. It should be one of the main tools in your toolbox. You can get a cheap one for $30ish dollars, but I spent a little more and got an Actron on sale for $100 bucks, and it has some nice features, such as showing live data, O2 sensor voltage, etc. I think it's a good idea for anyone that owns an older car out of warranty to have a code reader.

 

Not a bad idea. Where can i grab an Actron? Seems like a worthwhile investment so I can come straight on here with the code in the future of problems I know I'll be having with this car lol

 

I bought mine at Advance Auto Parts. I don't know what auto parts stores you have in your area, but they are readily available. You can also find them online, too.

 

Amazon usually has some killer deals on those Actrons. I've got a simple Cornwell one that I picked up for about $50, and it has been the best $50 I've ever spent for my car(s).

And it sounds like plugs, but, knowing the coils on our cars, Behr is probably on the right track. Here's to hoping it's not P0300. Lol. God help you if it is.

It wouldn't hurt to check the plugs, either. Factory ones are supposed to last 100K miles.

The $30 bluetooth code reader I have gives me all that live data on my phone also. Idk how accurate it is though. I really only use it t pull and clear codes.
