Is this symptom of too much oil?

Every time I tried to check the engine oil, the dipstick is covered with oil.

Bought the car used, so I'm wondering if its been over filled?

I try to wipe the dipstick clean, and re-dip but still covered in oil like along the entire stick.

Probably should drain it and do a quick oil change eh? What is the actual capacity of our 4 gens?

Let the car sit. Dont check the oil right after the engine is turned off.

If you just bought it, I would drain it and do a fresh oil change anyway

^ what he said. Let the car sit for a while on flat surface and then check the oil level. If you just bought it do and oil change. Car fits 4 quarts

Doesnt matter what you do, trying to get a good reading on a VQ dipstick is a crapshoot anyways

As others have said, check it first thing in the morning, before its started.
The reason the dipstick is covered in oil is because it sits in an oil return galley. If the engine isn't run for a while, that galley will be dry and you get a clean reading on the dipstick.

An oil and filter change yields 4.5 qts.

iv noticed if you turn the dipstick handle to face the front bumper rather than the hood, upside down so to speak, its somewhat easier to check the level of oil. and i use 4.25 quarts out of a gun at work and its always on the full mark. 4.5 to those who dont have that luxury i spose would be as accurate.

if you want peace of mind...do an oil change and put the specified amount. Until then....do what the others have said.
