Tie Rod Quality

Hey guys and gals, my 97 maxima has worn inner tie rods. Being inner and outer are originals, I'm want to change them all, both sides. Autozone has the inners for approx. $23.00, but I checked Rock auto and they have moog for about $10.00 each(inner and outers).

Does anyone have experience with these lesser priced tie rods, will they hold up, or am I better off buying the pricier onces. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Go with the moog as you have the ability to regrease them. In my opinion outers usually wear out due to the grease in them dissappating over time and ruining the joints over time. if you dont get the moogs then try and get something else that has a regreasable fitting.

Get the moog units, the autozone duralast ones are complete ****! I installed them and then a couple months later had to remove them from the steering knuckle for another job, and when I tried to remove them the joint stuck to the steering knuckle while the whole tie rod socket popped free! Complete garbage. Thank God it didnt happen while I was driving, because it didn't take much force for that socket to pop off. Doesn't pay to cheap out on car parts. Go with the moogs.

Nothing but good things to say about rockauto. Check the warranty--they honor the mfg's warranty. I just had a new starter fail in 2 1/2 mos.--rock auto shipped a new one and I shipped the old one back for $12. And they don't always require a core charge so it really works out.

Please dont put that BS Autozone crap on your car, Moog if you cant get Nissan. Suspension components especially. They have to be quality or else you will just have to do the same thing again in a few months

Thanks for the advice and recommendations so far. Moog it is, now i need to decide on whether I should get the greasable or non greasable, the latter is half the cost of greasable one. Im thinking of going with the cheaper non greasable moog. Theyre only about $10 each, is this too cheap to last?

Get the greaseable ones and you should never have to replace them again. Just grease them every oil change.

Agreed. Greasing them is easier than having to replace them again. if you're keeping the car for a while, spend the extra.

< Puts autozone crap on the white car all the time, lifetime warranty and I do my own maintenance, a win if you ask me

Brought my own tie rod tool because well I fix other people's car's too, paid for itself after I did one person's tie rods.

I wouldnt get MOOG suspenion parts from ebay they white lie and say they are genuine and even put the moog part numbers and stamps on them in the pics but when you get them they are some knockoff. It will cost more but if you are gonna do moog get them from rockauto. Neither I or any of my clients have never had an autozone part fail so far except altenators and you get a warranty I dont see anything wrong with them.

A quick follow up...Just completed changing the inner and outer tie rods on both sides. the car drives and feels so much better now, If I dare say, the care drives almost brand new. For all those that have new struts on their car and the car still feels loose, do your self a favor, change your tie rods. the car used to almost buttom out when backing out of my drive way, now it barely dips.

The job was faily easy too once you have the tools, which I borrowed from autozone
