GRRR, Rear axle beam is bent!

just got my maxima inspected for the first time since i purchased it (it was bumped in the rear) passed inspection just fine but the inspector told me the rear passenger side of the axle beam was bent (inspector is my neighbor) he said legally its fine, but its way out of alignmen, the wheel tracks straight, but the top is leaning in atleast 3/4" more than the bottom, it explains why the rear passenger tire that was on the car was worn to the belt on the inside. the best part is, it was damage from the wreck it was recently in, must be previous damage.

This afternoon i pulled the rear axle out of the 2001 parts car i got, it appears to be straight and it also appears the 2001 axle beam is the same as my 2002 model, im going to swap them out in the next week or so, does anyone know of anything i need to look for, or at before i install the axle beam? everything seemed fine when i removed it, brakes on the parts car worked fine too, just dont want to find any surprises later.

any advice is always helpful.

Just maybe do any other maintenance. Replace sticking ebrake cable, if lowered install qlink, go ahead and install rsb? Mod it up and maintenance it up!

I hear of people getting the ES mounts for the trailing arms and installing them into a junkyard beam to do a simple swap. Apparently those bushing rupture and the innards pour out making it soft and 'clunkly'.

so go for that if you feel froggy

replaced the rear beam today, only took about 4 hours start to finish (gotta love having a lift) the new rear beam actually doesnt look any different once in stalled, it still looks like the passenger wheel is leaning in some, however i did find that the original beam that was on the car was missing the nuts on BOTH of the trailing arms, it only had the bolts holding it in place with no nuts, and it had the passenger rear brake caliper seized up.

after swapping beams, fixing the rear caliper, and putting nuts/bolts on it my ride is WAY better, no squeaks and noises now, just alot better ride.

Yup, I did it myself in my driveway on jack stands. I also had to sawzall off the TA bolts and wait for replacement from Nissan. My neighbors REALLY started liking me when my car had been on stands in the driveway for about ten days... It was a ***** of a job but makes the car ride soooo much better.

hmm def need to do that. I had a A32 rear beam but it was different. So now I needz to go back and get a normal A33 beam instead. I thought since the chassis were the same they wouldn't have done any changes to anything. Everything but the pivot thingy in the middle was the same.

i cant see anything different between the 2001 beam that i used, and the 2002 beam i removed (maybe a previous owner changed out the beam once before, i dont know) either way everything seems alright that i can tell.

all the bushings were fine, i couldnt afford to change out the bushings right now anyway, if a bushing goes bad, then ill replace them.
