What does the 3rd end of the T-connector that connects to the antenna assembly thru a plastic tube attach to?



Bought an antenna mast to replace a broken mast and plastic rope for my 1999 GLE with power antenna. Opening the motor assembly, removing broken rope, reassembling and inserting the new mast was a charm per posts by Daniel and MBhang and Haynes Manual.

The antenna assembly has a plastic tube at the bottom which connects to a metal T-connector. The connector has another plastic tube coming into it. However, I do not know what does the 3rd end of the T-connector attach to? I am assuming that this tube is for water drainage. Where can find this in Haynes?

Any thoughts?

PS: Dealers charge $300+ for replacing complete assembly. They do not want to open the motor to remove the broken rope although even that would net them a cool labor charge! I am glad I saved myself some money by looking up this forum. Thanks.

 

It is a vent tube and the T-piece simply is a free end.

 

is there a step by step to removing the antenna assembly? I did a search through this forum ,but couldn't find anything. I have a broken antenna and the old rope is stuck inside the motor.

This is not difficult at all -- believe me, I did it! Haynes gives pretty good instructions on this topic with illustrative pictures. Just in case you don't have Haynes:

0. You want to put some masking tape on the car body to prevent any
scratches.
1. With a bevel nut opener (or a nose pliers, or an old screw-driver
and a wood/rubber tipped hammer) loosen and remove the bevel nut
from outside.
2. Remove the bevel nut, the mast and the rubberized metal top of the
antenna from the car.
3. Open the trunk and remove the plastic clips that hold the
mats/carpets against the car walls.
4. Remove the jack from the wall on the right.
5. Remove 2 philips screws from the wall on the right to the left of
the area where the jack is stored.
6. Reach inside and remove the connection to the wire and the
moisture removal plastic tube.
7. Pull out the assembly (huff and puff!).
8. Open 5 philips screwss to open the motor assembly.
9. Have a drink to celebrate!
