need some ideas for an improv job

so apparently my shifter is broken where its bolted at the base of it, I dont think I can remove that whole part without breaking that whole metal frame its attached to. So I was thinking of just either bolting or attaching something in there that can just hold my shifter in place. Right now its dropped down and scrapes whatever is under it and isn't as smooth as it used to be so I want to build something around it that can keep it up and sustained. Do you guys have any ideas as to something I can buy at the hardware store or anywhere else that can work? Here's a pic in case you guys have no idea what im rambling about....you can see where the break is in the middle and where I tried to gorrila glue it so it would hold but that ended up breaking lol

That happened to mine and I just filled it with urethane from mcmaster.com. The same stuff we all use on the engine mounts. It was tricky because I had to build a "sheath" around the existing rubber to allow the urethane to completely encase the existing rubber. Though I guess theoretically you could just encase that whole front section

BUT - that's all really just a waste of time. I realized after doing mine that complete new units are surprisingly cheap. $30 bucks from Nissan (this listing is for a VE but the VG is the same price):

so you're willing to "rig" a part that costs 30 bucks that's critical to the drive-ability of your car?

just buy a new piece....while you're there swap out some rubber bushings in the linkage and etc.

Lol good point, I didn't imagine it would be cheap or at least would be attached to something that was a job and a half to remove

When I repaired mind I honestly just assumed that new ones were both discontinued/unavailable and ridiculously expensive. I was pleasantly surprised to learn a few years back they're still available and cheap. I guess that's what I get for assuming.

Nissan will surprise you like that. Then the things you'd think are cheap are outrageous. For example, I recently wanted to buy a new dash clock. $250 bucks. No thanks lol

I've had a lot of luck finding parts at the junkyard so far, still in good condition too. but all the shifters I've seen on them are just gutted beyond recognition
