2013 Parking Brake Light

I set the car to on by pushing the button twice with my foot off the brake and I see the brake light as well as an assortment of other lights come on. After a few seconds most lights go off leaving the brake light , battery, check engine soon and I think one other light on.

I push the buton to start and after a second or so all the lights go out ( Ebrake was engaged the entire time).

The car is now running and I engage and disengage the ebrake several times and the brake light does not come on. I have never owned a car that the brake light does not illuminate when the parking brake is engaged. Is this normal ? The car has 200 miles so if it is it never worked.

It's not a big deal as I know brake is on as the car won't move without giving it gas but I would like to know if it's working as designed.

I read the manual and watched a youtube video before posting this but can't get a definite answer.

Thanks

My owners manual (2009) and I'm sure yours says the same states When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position the parking light comes on when the parking brake is applied. I checked my vehicle and indeed the light is on with the parking brake.

Thanks, I figured that just wanted to make sure. I'll address it at my first oil change. On your car does it light up the work BRAKE when applied ? Funny how it works on start up but not when engaged

I'm not even sure if I wantt them to rip the dash apart to fix it and I end up with rattles

When the car is on, if the e-brake is engaged, then the light should be on.

I found a schematic, looks like there is a switch near the Ebrake that triggers the light to activate, guessing it's bad or not hooked up correctly. I'll bring it up at my first oil change

I have the opposite problem, I can be driving down the highway and my brake light will come on for a few seconds then go off. Also sometimes a light comes on thats says vdc off and it wont go away until I turn the car off and back on. weird

Seems to be a common problem caused by low brake fluid

This probably should not be considered as a 'problem.' The manual says this is the car's official way of letting us know our brake fluid level has dropped to (or below) the 'add fluid' mark.
