Is that a good idea to change the offset on wheels?

I do have 18x8.5 wheels, and they kinda stick out on the front, due to 35mm offset. However I was thinking of machining the wheels to 38mm offset, some people say its doable and some say lots of shops won't do that kind of job, since its illegal due to high risk of rims cracking etc...So I'm still confused whether I should leave it as it is & whether I can put 245/40/18's once I'll drop the car w/ B&G springs and if there will be any rubbing at all???

With an 18x8.5 wheel you should be fine with clearance, even with the B&G drop, but since the offset different, you might have a problem. Its not too safe to machine the wheels, but its been done by plenty of people.
