First pass with the 3.5 swap

Last night of drags at Firebird International Raceway before closing since their 30 year lease is up. So as one would expect, EVERYONE was there. I got there at 9:45pm and made my only pass at 12:26am.

Full trim, full tank of gas (only 60 miles on it since fillup) spare, jack, 31psi (wasn't worth it to drop the pressure for one pass), tools, battery jump pack, thermo textbook.

Mods:
03 VQ35
bomz cone filter on stock maf and hemholtz resonator
60mm 3.0DE tb
NWP 5pc spacers minus tb spacer
NWP BOP
Altima headers
3"y pipe
3" Cattman Exhaust
470k ohm resistor in KS harness
e-Manage Ultimate - mild street tune - little bit of fuel and timing, will get specifics later.

Rev limit set at 7000, shifted at 6500 in 1st, probably took it to 7 in 2nd and 3rd. I haven't done any tuning above 6500.

The tires chirped off and on through 1st, 2nd spun a lot and I just stayed in the throttle until the tires caught, and I rode the rev limiter in 3rd going through the traps. Not gonna lie, I'm used to taking it to 7200 and being able to stay in 3rd through the traps.

All in all it was a dirty pass leaving plenty of room for improvement. I'm planning on going to IFO on the 7th, so I should be able to get some clean passes in then.

I'm 816, 769 is another 3.5 swapped 4th gen with intake and a muffler.

I have a PFTB and my 3.5" intake waiting to be installed.

Yeah, that thermo textbook killed your times bro.

Looking forward to results when you get some clean runs....

Looks like a mid 13 second car with traction. The guy in the other lane needs a knock sensor.

not too shabby. probably gain a a decent amount of trap with a decent launch, optimized shift points, and less weight (not talking about stripping stuff just less gas, tools and textbooks lol).

I'm looking into getting some slicks or drag radials and probably won't go back to the track until I have those.

That textbook isn't going anywhere.

The ks was the first thing I thought of when I got home. What did you guys do with the ks?

Haha yeah it was a spur of the moment thing. Where would you recommend shifting on a stock 3.5 im? I do plan on dynoing it, but that's a ways off.

We ran a resistor on our car. I think we're going to try a real sensor this time.

I ran the 4th gen KS initially, ignition timing always dipped down to 5 degrees at idle. With the resistor I've gotten one extra mpg in city driving and more power.

Mine seems to vary at different idle speeds.
525 rpm= 7°
600 rpm= 11°
700 rpm = 15°
Not sure if these numbers are normal, just tossing info.... 99 I30 auto 3.0

I guess I should note that my idle is around 800-1000 without an iacv.

Which cam adapters which cams?

5* at idle is WAY too low, your cams could be timed wrong (i get a steady 18-20 at idle with no corrections on stock 3.5L cams, but i timed my cam adapters myself)

^^that's definitely some issues there, you should have about 20-22* at idle 650-800 on a stock 3.0 without any cam work (DE or DEk does not matter)

Stock VQ35DE cams and stephenmax cam adapters.

I know its too low, I wanted to see if what I read on here was true about the KS on a VQ35 giving false knock readings, thus pulling timing. I know the sensor is good since it always read 15° at idle on my 3.0. With the resistor installed on my VQ35, I get about 14°-15° at idle.

Where did you find that 20°-22° should be the standard? Idle on a stock 3.0 or 3.5 should be about 15°.
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...operation.html
Not to mention that all of the 5th and 5.5 gens that have the base timing advance done is raising it from 15° to 17°.

Went to Import Face Off today. Ran a best time of 14.265@100.43

That was my only decent pass. I either missed 3rd or I spun at launch resulting in a 2.45+ 60'.
Last time I was at this track is the OP. Since then they have redone the track and laid down new concrete, this was the 3rd day its open. In the past my 60' have been worse at this track than the other 2 tracks I've been to in AZ, unfortunately that issue still persists.

New personal best of 13.994@99.88. Best trap of the night was 100.78, and a new best 60' of 2.20.

Running 225/50R15 Toyo Proxes R888 on two 3rd gen wheels up front. With these tires, my 60' averaged high 2.2x. On my street tires I will usually be lucky to manage a low 2.3x. I'm still working on improving my launches, I had the best results launching at 3-3.5k with these tires after a burnout.
I also had a lot of trouble shifting into 3rd gear, moreso than usual, which resulted in many mid 14 sec passes at 98mph or so.

Wild Horsepass Motorsports Park (formerly Firebird International Raceway) in Chandler, AZ
Track Elevation: 1080ft
Density Altitude at time of my best run: 3560ft

Current setup:
+02 VQ35 w/3.0 timing, 7th gen injectors (Green Denso's), DE-K FPR, return fuel setup on a VQ35 fuel rail
+AEM Dryflow, 3.5" velocity stack, Q45 MAF, OEM 7th gen intake tubing
+PFTB
+NWP BOP
+NWP 5pc spacers
+Altima headers w/ 3" y pipe back
+2J-Racing UDP
+Nistune ECU [7000 RPM rev limit, AFR low 12s, ignition timing left untouched]

Race weight: 3016lbs with driver, tools, battery jump pack, and a little over 1/4 tank of gas.

Congraz bet it felt good to finally crack 13s and there is more left too. A little timing, a/f adjustment and etc and you should be in the mid 13s

New personal best of 13.918@101.56. New best trap speed of 103.1mph.

Only changes is the removal of my 3" Cattman Catback for a 3" 2JR side exit - and better weather. By the end of the night the DA dipped into the 900's. My car is also about 20lbs lighter than the last time I ran.

Going to start looking into full slicks, as I am starting to spin more frequently on the 1-2 gear change.

man lean that thing out to 12.7-12.9 and add 1-2degrees on timing above 4k and you'll be looking at mid 13s
