Repair or replace rusted/broken rear side marker bracket?

I took off my side markers today and the driver rear crunched and the bracket is toast. I messed with it trying to figure something out but it is getting dark so I zip tied it in place for the time being. Does anyone have any advice? I was thinking I should avoid taking it apart any further and making things worse so maybe I can fabricate a new metal bracket and screw it to the body behind the marker. If I can get it bent to where the edge is where the original tab was it should work like normal, and be able to remove it still. I really wish I hadn't messed with it.

I appreciate the offer, however if your location is correct I assume your state dumps as much salt as mine does and your bracket has the structural integrity of cardboard. Also it would probably create more problems in the process if I tried to remove anything else to replace it properly.

I fixed it by mounting a bracket at each end. I put a little piece of sticky butyl behind it to waterproof it some. After I finished the one I broke, I was confident enough to pull the other side. The passenger side has slightly less room due to the jack being on that side, so the bracket needed to be at a little different of an angle. I just measured the distance between the tabs on the light and marked where the old brackets ended and measured and bent some new ones. The lights click in and out like new.

I took some pictures in case anyone else runs into this problem.
