altima heart transplant

hey - i was just wondering......is the 3.5 engine in the new altima the same engine as the one in the max??? They have very similar HP output, and they are both 3.5 liters, so i guess it wood be most economical for nissan to maufacture one engine and put it into two different cars. The extra 15HP on the max maybe from some fine adjustments maybe??? How about dropping the altima's engine into a max?? - is that possible?? - my neighbor is willing to sell me his altima powerplant cause he is gonna drop a V-8 into that sucker - (he wants to win this private import car show at stony brook very badly)

I believe the vq35 & 30 are the same blocks. The 3.5 has a different stroke and vvt heads. It may have an extra oil passage on the deck for the vvt which can be plugged. My friend is a manager at a Nissan dealer so as soon as I can get over there I'm gonna take a look at the 2002 repair manual and compare engine specs. If the blocks are the same I was thinking about trying a transplant myself or maybe just replaceing the crank, rods and pistons to bring mine up to a 3.5.

a V8 in a DSM? I never heard of that when i was into them.

I have seen the Starion/Conquest (older DSM's before the T/E/L) with a Chevy V8 cramped in there.

Re: Re: Re: altima heart transplant

If I can put a 445HP ZZ4 SBC Crate engins in my Pontiac Fiero, I don't think there should be any problem with a V8 transplant into an Altima.

Am I the only one that feels a bit threatened that Nissan upped the power of the Altima to beyond killing range of the stock Max?

You can't fit a V8 into a Miata either....
