mom: "How much is that"
Me: "About 4k installed"
Mom "sure"

4,000 bucks instead of 120,000 is a damn good deal

Hopefully the gourd doesn't require people to spell to join haha

If I were a parent I may buy my kid a brembo big brake kit because you'd think a parent would want a kid to slow down not go faster. If it were a daughter it'd be some stodgy Volvo S80 or something.....and no going out with guys until age 40 or something

since they're saving around $100k, they should buy you a 2k2 max or something. e36 M3 maybe?

Why not just get the full scholarship, and just PRETEND that you didn't get the scholarship and they still have to spend that much money, and just get an M5. Duhhh, life is so simple.

I don't see it that way at all--parents and kids should work together to see that the kid is the best that they can be. If a kid gets a scholarship they aren't saving the parents money that they should shell out in material goods. That's money that can be spent on another child or whatever. My family values maybe are different.

your parents must be rich. I had to do it the hard way, actually my choice to make it easier on my parents, I joined the Army (Delayed entry program) on my junior year in Highschool and got shipped off to boot camp about 10 days after senior graduation. The Army college fund paid for my tuition. Why more kids don't do this I do not know. If they did I would believe that they would have more respect for people and the comfort things they have now. Ok I am off my soapbox now (Julian now stepping off his soap box).

Umm. Yes my parents are loaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaded.... Thousands of kids rents pay for college dude. I'm paying for as much as I can, they pay for as much as they can and then loans do the rest I guess. Some people dont want to join the military and its that easy. There are a lot of things morally wrong with our armed forces. Sure they protect and everything but jesus christ the stuff they do is just sick. If it happened outside of a goverment instatution the people doing that crap would be thrown in jail.

On another note: I tried the 2k2 maxi idea after I thought about it more and they said dont push it =).

Lastly the point in offering an object is motovation. I mean id try my hardest either way but having a free super charger in the back of my mind might push me even more. I'm the last person theyhave to pay for, for college. Its funny this has turned into some family morals thread.

when I had to go to college, but I do not regret going to the Army, I actually enjoyed it, go to go to Germany for a few years and even drive on the autobaun lots of times. Got to go site seeing to different countries, castles, etc. We here in the USA take our freedom for granted, in other countries it is MANDATORY for young men at the age of 18 to join the military for at least a year or more, I think that is why the crime rate in Europe maybe a little less than the US.

My advice to you as an adult is >>

Save your money. If you get those scholarships wonderful. Take that $3K you get for the supercharger and do some smart investing. Or, just put it in the back, if your lazy. Take it from someone who knows, you'll be glad you did when you graduate college. Just be thankful you're a high school student with a car. When I was in high school, I could only dream of having a car, when I bust out the train pass every morning...consider yourself lucky.

his parents dont have to be rich to pay his tuition; I know tons of middle class parents who pay their kids way through universities; sometimes more than one kid at once. It's hard, but you can do it without signing your kid up for the military!

Seriously though bro, I saw a couple of retards in the mall a few weeks ago, fatigues, boots and all...looked a couple of Army guys, until I looked closer, they had no patches (not even name tags). Seemed to me as if they were just walking around trying to get the attention of girls.

Yeah also I have a lot of money saved up. The whole " I wish i had a car when i was your age thing" is kind of done. Kids now a days have high paying jobs, etc, so we can afford them. Times are a changing. Thanks for the investment tips though...

sorry no army for me, but i did get a partial scholarship, 10g's a year and i thought about that whole can i get an e36 m3 when i graduate thing but no dice, my dad is first off nice enough to pay for my remaining tuition and second off he played a major role in me replacing my busted @ss 95 SE with my hot NEW(to me at least) 97 SE. So no complaints on either side.
