Technically any mods are illegal....if they have a D.O.T stamp I would fight it in court...if they don't, watch out.

I dunno where you live, but here in CA, the altezza lights for the Maximas are illegal, no questions about it. Just because it is DOT approved, it does not mean it meets state and federal laws. I would say, leave them on, they look kool and they make the non-altezza owners jealous!

No aftermarket or even OEM product is DOT approved...they can only meet or exceed the standards set by DOT or SAE. The DOT stamping really means nothing, i could essentially stamp a y-pipe with DOT but that does not make it legal. It is how the aftermarket manufacturer read or interpreted the DOT standard. I say definetly fight it and state that it does have a DOT stamp or "approval" but in essense it could be very incorrect...

That was a rice cop and you got lucky that he let you off, when I catch people with altezza lights I cart them straight to rice prison.

See, but your not listening, the MAXIMA ALTEZZAS are not legal. Ive said it b4 and ill say it AGAIN. In CA, there has to be at least 3 inches of colored housing (red or amber) on the back, side of teh vehicle. When you replace teh maxima with the altezzas, it takes away the 3 inches of housing that is required. Some altezzas are legal becasue they come with the colored housing, ours do not. Some cars are just like ours, ie the lexus IS300. If you look closely, you can see a 3 inch long red rectangle on the side, rear of the car. This is why that car is street legal. Does that clear things up?

But look how noticable the Max altezzas are. At least the civic/integra's look decent and unnoticable.

In N.Y. you need to have two red reflectors in the back and when you break they must light up red. They are legal in N.Y.

Altezzas are illegal? WTF?! Why are they illegal? They do light up red when you brake. Maybe it's just where you live. In Louisiana, I think they are legal. Cops around here usually only bust people that have hyperwhite turn signals or any type of blue light.

Hm...if this is the case, I might have to do something abou it. If I want to the 97-99 tails, I have to swap out the trunk lid right? I know the outer tails are a direct fit. I already ordered a 97-99 front bumper and grill, so maybe I should just complete it. Besides the trunk lid, the swap isn't that expensive.

Hey if you don't know your local/state laws, then don't complain when you get a ticket for something illegal.

Simple as that. If you think you are right, research(dying pastime) the law, present your case in court and get it dropped.

Geez!

wow, that site was quite helpful, in my state (TX) it says we have to have 2 reflectors at the rear of the car (the middle of the altezzas outer lens are) so i should be ok, anyone think it would be smart to play it safe and get small red reflectors for the sides?

Well, I'm keeping mine in. I think it's stupid that the Altezzas are illegal. They light red when you brake. It's not like it has blue or hyperwhite lights. What's next? Are they going to make the clear/red, red/clear tails illegal too soon? Like any modification at all to your tails will be illegal kind of thing. i.e.unless your car came like that. Don't say they won't, you never know.

If I do get a ticket for the Altezzas, I'll just get my lawyer to take care of that. Not a problem.
