Its non locking. The term 'locking' is misused here though, but the tranny is non-locking.

In this case it means open vs. limited slip, which isn't locking per se, its just a limited amount of slip like the name suggests.

I believe Canadian Maximas had Limited Slip differential, and the i30's here in U.S. If you want this thing, look for i30 auto trannies

Only SEs in canada have VLSD, and that might only be the 5 speeds, not sure if the auto does or not. Do all I30s have limited slip? I know only the I30t has the 5 speed limited slip, but Don In Texas had to get his VLSD from somewhere.

Re: Auto Tranny, Does It Have A Locking Differential Or Non?

A direct replacement for your tranny is a non-locking unit.

However...

if you want to take this opportunity to upgrade your car as well as get it running again, you could get a locking tranny. This one has a viscous limited slip differential (VLSD) in it and provides better traction. This is better for both launching hard as well as driving around in wet or icy conditions. You will need a new driver's side halfshaft (aka driveshaft) for this, though. Your existing halfshaft will not work with the locking transmission. I believe that's the only change you'll need to make (besides the tranny itself, of course). You can ask Don in Texas for more details regarding this upgrade (he did it).
