Transmission dead :(

Hey guys so the day finally came and my transmission is no more. I can do two things rebuilt mine or get a used one. Here in San Francisco it's about the same I was quoted around 2500 to rebuild and 1800 for a used one without labor. I want some advice and feedback from members that have changed there's. is it better to rebuilt or get a used one. I'm concerned since getting a used one would mean its from a used maxima and it may or may not last me. I'm leaning more on rebuilding or possibly trading it in. What are your suggestions thanks guys.

I decided im going to repair it. I went to alot of local shops and the least was 2800 to 3800. Today i went to the dealer and they will do it for 3200. I decided im going to do it there and will let you guys know how it goes. I also filed a claim with nissan since i did my services regulary they say they might end up covering for it or part of it

Best of luck. Sorry you have to endure the pain of the transmission issue. I think you made a good decision as far as avoiding a used transmission. I had mine rebuilt at a local shop which took a few tries to finally get it working properly. Been good for about 3 years, knock on wood. Thanks for the followup and hope it all works out for you.

If I were you, I would ask them for an extended warranty on the transmission. You can work out a deal to cover just the transmission. They will probably only give you a year if not. That might not be long enough to discover any problems.

Thanks man ill definitely ask them when i get it serviced. I got a call from the rep today she sounded so so in the fact if they would help me. She said they will look at my service records from the dealer and have an answer for me friday. She was honest and told me that i had about a 25% chance of getting any help so i hope im lucky anyways ill keep you guys posted.

Hey Guys so i got the news back from Nissan and no luck they say that i should have serviced my transmission every 10,000 miles so since i out in 50,000 in the time i had it i should have according to them done it 5 times when i only did it 3 for every 15,000. Plus they say that when i serviced it at the dealer i declined to do all the services they recommended me like 600 for there major service package which was a ripoff. I told them a bunch of stuff and no luck. So now i will need to save money this month and get it repaired next month before school. This will be my last nissan ever

Come to think of it, you never gave us full details on the state of your transmission. What do you mean by your transmission is no more? Have you lost the gears? It could just be the well too known valve body issue, and in which case you don't need the entire transmission to be rebuilt. Did you ever had codes pulled?
