Battery Cover Question

Hello

Before I post I would like to mention that YES I did do some research on the website, search engines, etc for my question and I got general answers pertaining to other cars and applications, except for the car I am inquiring about, unless its all redundant information that applies to every application in which case I have wasted your time and I do apologize. I threw out the battery box cover on my car when i changed the battery (stupid of me).

What is the purpose of the Battery Box Cover on the 2000 Max?

Is it necessary at all? (contemplating on buying a replacement from junkyard)

I currently use a 35 size battery because Walmart didn't carry the 24 size here in Vancouver, BC.

Kind Regards,
German

It's just a cover. I wouldn't waste your time.

What this guy said. It's not really for anything other than piece of mind and or to protect the engine bay from acid if the battery were to burst or spring a leak.

There are genuinely only limited applications were battery boxes help protect from areas of high heat. The Maxima is not one of those vehicles, the Maxima box is more cosmetic....to keep the battery from standing out and to help protect (as mentioned) from acid leaks/battery explosions.

This was interesting. When I bought my 2000 (used), it didn't have one and I was fat, dumb and happy. After reading this thread, I looked in the parts manual and found there is one listed, part number 24431-2Y910.

I'm still fat, dumb and happy AND I know know a useless piece of trivia.

Today I went to check out 2013 maxima, I saw it offers 'airbag locks' as an option, dealer install. I found it weird. Now I saw this.
