My SRS exhaust clip after 1 month of having it on.

So i installed my srs exhaust about a month ago and waited to make sure it was fully broke in before taking a video of it.

The video doesn't capture just how deep it sounds but pretty close.

This video is of a cold start in the morning please scroll down to post #10 for a warm start to compare.

A little hard to hear (probably just my phone) but from what I could hear sounded pretty good.

Can't wait for CJ and all those guys to chime in. Hopefully your thread doesn't end up like Stillwells.

Thanks for the replys.

This was a cold start so it was idling around 1000 to 1100.

I will take another video after work so you can compare the cold start vs warmed up.

This ^^^

Very true, watch out for "those guys chiming in" as they can be unpredictable, spiteful, and are known to hamper threads for no reason.

Exhaust sounds good, IMO. That thing is really DEEP and sounds almost like a muscle car, I'm guessing you also have unequal length Y-Pipe? My Cattman Y-Pipe produces a more evenly toned sound with less rumble and more mellow, but my whole system is 2.5" Cat-back. Personally I love that kind of deep rumble sound, and prefer it over the more high pitched sounds of certain others (IE. Megan). SRS seems to sound similar to the Greddy EVO II in a way. Only aftermarket exhausts I ever liked for the VQ30 are Greddy and Cattman, but now the SRS as well. The phone makes it hard to hear and drowns out certain sounds levels completely, so best bet is to use a digital camera or an actual camera, I'm going to try with my digital camera instead of my phone later today and let you know if that worked better. Or perhaps you can film video/audio separately and link them up, I will try both ways and let you know.

The SRS looks very similar to what I just got, the muffler construction and the same kind of welded on tips. Speaking of which, what size tips are the outlets on the SRS? I wanna put some 3-3.25" tips on mine to make it look sort of "Cattman style"? Also, I have driven less that 100 miles still with my new exhaust, how long did it take you to really get that SRS broken in (miles wise)?

Yep your correct it has a Warp speed Unequal length y-pipe( this is also a fed spec 2000 so no precats at all) along with a new magnaflow catalytic converter. I waited until i had the y-pipe, cat and exhaust and then just installed it all at the same time last month so i didn't have to worry about any rusted bolts. I just cut the pipe in a few places and yanked it all out.

Too loud for me! LOL!!
I heard a tinny rattle when throttled. Is the exhaust hitting something or is that just something with the muffler or connectors?

Nope there's no rattle at all.

You might be hearing the exhaust popping when i rev it and let off.

This was also a cold start so the exhaust is louder its actually very mellow when warmed up i will post another video later today maybe during lunch of it fully warmed up and won't do this one in the garage so i wont get background noise.

OP how is your drone? I put one of these on my 5.5 in the spring. I really like the sound but am starting to hate the 1600-2400 drone. I'm thinking of a Magnaflow muffler to replace the small resonator that comes with this.

I forgot to add I have replaced the factory srs resonator that comes with this exhaust with one from Vibrant. I posted a thread about wanting to replace the factory one on the srs after just a week after installing due to the exhaust drone at that rpm range your talking about.

The factory SRS resonator is 9.4" long and I replaced it with a 14" Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator part# 1141.

It fits perfectly in the exhaust tunnel and took all the drone away at all rpms.

Now on a side note there is a lot of room to install a resonator up to about 23" long in place of the srs resonator but all of those in that length are typically glasspack style resonators which have a smaller body and I have heard a lot of good reviews about the vibrant so went with it and very happy.

You guys are late to the party! My 01 Maxima was running an SRS exhaust for at least 2yrs. <IMHO> SRS is the best budget exhaust for the money. For more info see this. http://forums.maxima.org/8249660-post92.html

You might get a 22" resonator depending on the diameter. Guess you guys have missed the information regarding the 18" long and 6" diameter Magnaflow resonator Cmax has installed into his Cattman setup. I've followed his lead and am welding mine up as we speak. I'm sure Magnaflow has this resonator in a 2.5" pipe option as well.

The reason i went with the vibrant was because of the good reviews about it and it really did stop the drone and also because mine is a 2000 fed spec i have a rear O2 sensor that needed to be installed in the SRS exhaust and i drilled a hole and welded the bung for the O2 sensor when i installed the exhaust leaving me only about 16 inches of room to install a new resonator because of where i installed the o2.

If you have a unmodified SRS exhaust the maganflow resonator sounds like a good idea.

Completely understandable for your application. I'm sure I've seen your posted images. I was only following up to your comment about enough room for a 23" resonator. Wanted to provide some info that some may have not come across as it occured in a cattman thread. I'm not sure about vibrant dimensions or availability, just speaking to my knowledge Magnaflow does make a 22" resonator. Imagine Vibrant does too.

Just backing up as well as adding to info you're offering.

Not a problem hopefully it will help someone fix the drone issue they have with the exhaust the 22" magnaflow on there sounds like it would be great. If i hadn't drilled my whole where i did in the exhaust and did it alittle bit close to to the flange then i would go the magnaflow route.

I saw the Cmax resonator that was 6" but wow that doesn't leave much room for error or play. I'm sure the Vibrant or even a 4" Magnaflow that is long enough will do the trick because the SRS one is tiny.

The vibrant one i posted did get rid of all my drone so you shouldn't have any problem.

Cattman resonator is 4" on 3" piping. Great tone, sound, and volume. However, still loud enough to attract unwanted attention, still has some drone in the typical "zone." It's known to be the quietest.
Also consider the stock resonator is approximately 5" diameter (IIRC). A 6" fits cozy but no worries.

You should be able to fit as large as 6" and 22" length. Tight, but doable. Anything smaller is workable, just have to question whether its large enough to do the job. Clearly, even oval resonators will work, but I can't speak to those dimensions. Looks like a nice in-between to a solid round unit by offering added square inch coverage. Nice to see what all people are coming up with that fits, does the job, and is cost effective.

Hello everyone I'm new to the forums and modding my car and i have a quick question. I just recently purchased the srs catback and i believe the resonator(straight pipe) is a different size than the resonator you guys receive because its a lot longer than 9''. Also how would install the vibrant resonator is it plug n play or some welding involved?

The resonator in your pic looks like what I received with my SRS. It lasted only a short time before I got rid if it and put in a 6" Magnaflow. I'm auto (for now ) and the drone was way past my acceptable threshold.

You will need to have the Vibrant welded in place of the current.

Would the size difference in the two resonators play a role in installation process? I believe the SRS is quite longer than 12in
Also, is it part #14158 and would it get rid of all the drone and excess noise?
