A/C only goes down to 65F?!

Hello,

Just bought a 2000 Maxima SE and noticed the digital climate control only goes down to 65F - when I crank it all the way to the left.

Is this as cool as the A/C goes, or is something wrong with my car?

Thanks.

How cold do you want it. 65 seems pretty cool to set an ac thermostat. And yes I believe 65 is the lowest setting.

Yes, that's the lowest (18*C for Canadian Maximas). If your A/C is properly charged and working well, it should be ice cold. It's definitely cold enough for me

Whatever the low is, it's still pumping full cold air until the cabin hits that temp. Are you carting around some penguins?

the 65 setting keeps the a/c on constantly, it won't regulate. Similarly, when using heat, 85 has the heat blasting all the time. So 65 for a/c and 85 for heat means "on all the time".

I believe 5.0 gen the minimum is 65 and max is 85.

And on the 5.5 the min is 60 and the max is 90.

The only thing this changes when you turn the dial is a flap to divert air around or through the heater core. The compressor can either be on or off. Pretty basic system that works well.

The 3rd and 4th gens are also 65 and 85 fwiw.

While you call it a pretty basic system, how it is implemented is not so basic. The control unit in the dash is a microprocessor controlled unit that gets input from 4 temperature sensors to move that flap (it's called the air mix door) and also control the fan speed based on cabin temperature. Once the passenger compartment reaches the set temperature, the air mix door is constantly moving small amounts to maintain that temperature

As long as all the parts work, life is good.
