Oil Leak

Hi All,

Just bought a used 2000 Burgundy Maxima, 132,000 miles, leather, a little beat up but otherwise a pretty nice machine. Hoping you can help me identify the culprit for a couple of leaks I noticed. I'll attach some pictures. Note that neither leak was significant enough to leave any puddles. The driveway where this car was parked was dry and when I parked it at home the driveway underneath it stayed dry as well. However, when I look underneath, there appears to be two leaks.

The first couple of pictures show a leak from the oil drain plug. Do you think the entire pan should be replaced or would a new plug do the trick?

The third picture is more concerning to me. I think, it appears to be where the Rear Main Seal would be, but I'm not sure.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Upper Oil pan gasket leak, I have the same issue just not as bad, if not it's the oil cooler oring or lower pan gasket.

First one looks like a bad gasket on the drain plug. Easy fix. The third looks like a rear main seal sweat. Wipe it down and see where it is coming from. Could be from an axle seal.

Ok, great, I thought it had something to do with the drain plug. Thank you.

Rear main seal sweat? That doesn't sound too bad. Took your advice, wiped it down, then I'll check it tomorrow to see what happens.

Thanks!!

Its not the rear main seal. It is the upper oil pan seal as already mentioned.

Its a weekend job if you want to do it at an easy pace in your garage. The seal is only $7 but the dealer will ask for $1K to do it if you choose that route!
