I30 Cluster Illumination Help
I30 Cluster Illumination Help
Scooped up a I30 Cluster from the junkyard for cheap.. Figured I just install it see if it works and it does everything works but the illumination lol anybody know how to wire it up? If anybody can guide me or install for me I'm located in New Jersey. Let me kno thanks
I understand these clusters don't use bulbs they are driven by some kinda gas tube or something needs some help from some OG's in the maxima gang lol

I was comparing schematics for a 2001 Infiniti and a 2000 Maxima. A saw a few differences that probably don't mean anything, like the trunk open light in the Infinity cluster won't have a connection in the Maxima.
But I noticed that the Infiniti cluster has 3 power input pins (# 62, 66 & 31) while the Maxima only has 2 (# 62 & 66).
The Maxima used light bulbs for illumination and it used pin 64 as power to those bulbs. In the Infiniti cluster, pin 64 goes to the cluster control unit.
I'm kind of guessing, but I think the pin 31 power may be the issue.

I was reading some more and I don't think that my earlier guessing was right.
The light for the gauges is one long, skinny fluorescent light tube that goes the full width of the cluster. Click on the link below and scroll down to the photos in steps 8 and 10 to see this tube. After seeing this, I'm thinking that there is something inside the cluster blocking the light.

Its pretty much plug and play except the illumination part you have to follow the LED write up provided in this thread. I could have wired it up to work with the stock EL Tube but the LEDs looked way better then the stock greenish color

I've never seen anyone do it with that cluster, I've seen a few guys go to the much better looking I35 cluster. Can't see the point in jumping to the I30, it isn't really any different looking. Either way, congrats, light output looks fantastic, nice work!
I was thinking about doing a i35 but its kinda difficult to do a i35 cluster swap for a Maxima its not exactly plug and play like the i30 or is it? Ive read the coolant temperature sensors are different and the temp gauge will not work unless u do some wiring
Yes there is more wiring involved, but the end result is worth it. Just personal opinion I guess, I see no reason to essentially downgrade to the I30 cluster, unless of course, you needed to replace the old one anyways.
It would be easier and better looking to get the SE cluster which would be PnP

I know someone locally who did it to his 2002/2003 car, so the wiring wouldn't be identical. His name is TLM NICK, unsure of the exact layout of his name though. There have been a few guys on the Org who've done the swap though, not sure if any are still around.
google'd quickly, didn't read though, there's more that came up.

END result in 02-03

If somebody could help me figure out the wiring with the TEMP gauge I can do this no problem.. Ima hit up that guy you suggested
You can swap it i think the MPH Gas and RPMS will work but the Temp gauge will not work seeing as the i35 reads the engine temp off the ECU i think and the i30 and 5th gen maxima uses a separate Temp Sensor.. So u have to figure it out on ur own to see how to get it to work...
