2001 maxima- My engine rpms just rise for no reason from time to time. I can be sitting at a light and all the soddon the rpms increase to 3 - 4000 rps. I have to shut car off and restart.
I replaced the idle control valve and that didn't help. anyone have any imput?

You have to provide a more info. How much of an increase? Was it on a cold day or a hot day? Did it just start happening? Have you recently gotten gas?

On my 02 I often seen a range between 700+ to 900+. Sometimes its just the AC cutting in, other times its the outside high temperature. Shutting off the car is going to reset a lot of things but unless you have extremely long red lights you won't have enough time to really see if its the cause.

He said RPMs rise to 3-4000...at idle that's a huge rise

Is everything else working alright with the car? No check engine light? Cruise control? What about tension on your throttle cable, is it too tight?

yea, 3 to 4000 rpm increase. I have no red lights on or any other service engine soon light. I have put a code reader on and there are no codes.
It mainly happens more on hot days and it will happen with the ac on or off.
Throttle cables are all good, all censers are connected, throttle body was cleaned when I replaced iacv. ????? Any other suggestions?
