I want to hide my head unit....

My car got F'ed up last friday (the entire center console was smashed, rear seat bent all to hell... they tried to get into the trunk by removing the seat back... f uckers). Well I got the brilliant idea on the way back from State Farm today that when I install my new deck, it would be frickin' cool to camoflage it somehow with the faceplate from my Bose system.

Has anyone done something like this?
Any other ideas?

Thanks

Here you go lazy...
Micah

A lot of people have done this. You have to mount the HU recessed a little bit to create enough clearance for the fake faceplate. Then you just acquire an old Bose HU and remove the face. If you want to get really creative, you can put a backing onto the buttons so that the fake faceplate still feels real to the touch. And some people, when using a stock HU faceplate that has a cassette player, have cut a cassette tape in half and glued it into the slot sticking out half way, for more realism.

Yup any type of head unit would work. pretty much the same way. Of course depending on this or that it may vary. It's just time consuming, boring and titious(sp?).

close... tedious

Well Jason, yes that's pretty close to what I'm thinking of! Thanks for the link. Oh, and no disrespect of course, but I dropped a load in my pants when I saw what Mike did in his Civic with his Sony deck. Dayum! Thanks again for the help and encouragement.

Yeah, It's not obvious whether or not it's motorized, but it's really cool... nothing to detach, just flip the stock faceplate down to reveal Sony HU.

It is a good idea and well dun. Not to take away from it but it is alot easier to do it in a civic whith that fac face than the max's though. The max's has no place to fold...Only real way to motize the max's would be basically to have them motierize up the it sticks out though. But it's kewl I dig what your saying. I'm curious to see how he does now that he has no choice but to finally run pro.
