knock sensor harness?

So, my car just all of sudden one day after work wouldn't stay running. Got it to the parts store and had them hook it up to the ODB2 box and was told it was the knock sensor. So my husband replaced it and not the harness. Drove the car to town and it did fine. When I went to head home, it wouldn't stay running again. Our thoughts are that the harness obviously needed to be replaced also....but we cannot seem to find one anywhere!! It's a 2000 model and everything I see is for a 4th gen. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

a bad KS (or harness) shouldn't make the car die... do you know what else is attached to the harness, if anything? You can run the car just fine without a KS even installed...so I think there's another code or two that isn't being given to you.

That's good to know...the only code was for the knock sensor but I've been doing a lot of reading and I've seen some people say it could also be the MAF sensor. Would it make sense for it to die if that was the problem?

Could be a MAF problem. Could be a cam sensor. Could be a crank sensor. Could be, could be, could be. You are going to have to have it properly diagnosed and that can't be done through the internet. Otherwise, you are going to be throwing parts at it hoping one fixes it.

Also cheap part stores sensors are known to fail out of the box and be crap. OEM for sensors and sensitive electronics is the way to go.

I do plan to get it properly diagnosed...just simply trying to get feedback from others that may have had the same issues.

Your explanation of the symptoms is vague. Wouldn't stay running can mean a lot. Would it die at idle? While driving? Anu lights turn on or blink? Any recent work? All electrical components work? Does it start normal? Idle/drive normal before turning off? Did you see for yourself if there were codes? Is your SES light on?

Obviously it needs to be properly diagnosed but the forums might be able to offer better insight with more detail. Good luck!
