I just finished mounting some Michelin tires on my newly acquired 350z touring edition wheels. The size of the tire is 235 45 18 all around.
The problem which I noticed is that each wheel has a mark "rear" and "front"...
So I tried to mount the "rear" wheels on back of the car but somehow the oem wheel wheel studs are shorter??? I was able to mount the "rear" wheels on the front of the car and the "front" wheels on the back?
Anyone else experienced that? my assumption was that all 4 wheels are +30 offset?

 

Nope. They are staggered on the Z. Only way to really run them is to have 4 fronts; at 30 offset. Sorry. There are a couple guys who ran them staggered. Do a search and see how they ran them and with what tire size configuration.

 

well i did research the wheels, but it just seems strange that the "rear" wheels fit the front wheel hub studs with no problem. I was thinking may be installing longer rear hub studs out of 350z?

 

Sorry, I re-read what you posted and the "wheel wheel" had thrown me off.....I completely missed the short studs thing. Yeah, as I recall the rear studs are a completely different part number. I never compared them though. I assumed the diameter of the hole they installed into on the rear hub was smaller or not as long as the fronts, never figured the actual stud length would differ.

Still, I'm surprised others who ran this set up never mentioned this issue.

 

I searched through threads for an hour researching this. I've read before about staggered setups and just couldn't recall any issues other than tire sizes. My research turned up pretty much the same thing, no issues running staggered rims. Though, I recall having to run longer studs with spacers, my understanding is that the front and rear Z rims have the same thickness between the lugnut and back of the rim.

I post this thread really for nothing more than to re-iterate comments about how the rims fit properly.

Guess my question is this, the z rims are deep as hell. How do you know the length of the studs on the rear is shorter than for the front when installing?

 

I have staggered wheels and they fit fine.

 

are you running oem size studs on your hubs?

 

What year 350z wheels do you have... If they are I think 06+ are different. I had 03 and they are both the same front and rear. The newer versions are staggered size with different offset. Mine were ALL 18x8 +30 and I believe that the newer ones are 18x8+30 and 18x8.5+33 (its the offset I am not sure about) but they are .5 wider. Which I believe means that the studs hole is shallower (if that is a word). But I am just guessing. I had ZERO problems with my 18x8 +30 setup front or back. I had the "fronts" on both the front and back.

 

And I have all rear Tracks 18x8.5 +33 all around with 10mm spacers in the rear and 5mm in front and get some slight rubbing on one side on medium bumps out back none in front. Progress/Illumina.

I wonder the possibility of someone replacing all the rear studs with the wrong ones? Doesn't make sense, but neither does the studs being short.

The studs and hubs are original... I believe I have what SSJRICH said... All wheels were marked 18x8 +30 but again 2 of them had "rear" and 2 had the "front" stamping on them... aside from that all 4 wheel look identical... so far I just have the rear mounted on the front the front mounted on the rear of the car... will it be possible that the rears are +33? I am not sure... I did have all 4 wheels on the ground with no tires on and measured the width and everything was the same on all 4??? I believe the studs hole is shallower on the "rear" wheels...

 

I would not have thought the +33 (rear) rims would have a different depth, and based on others who have ran this setup, it wouldn't seem to be the case. However, clearly your experience suggests otherwise.

 

I am pretty sure I will have some free time this weekend... I am gonna take the wheels off and snap a few pics may be take my caliper and measure the length of the treads and depth of the bolt holes...

 

BTW the difference on Front v. Rear only applies towards Nissan's RWD vehicles w/ staggered wheels from the factory. There is a stud on the brake rotor that prevents one from installing a rear on the front w/o minor modification, does not affect us FWD folks.

I have 350z special edition, staggered rear and they fit fine. I swap between those and stock with no problems.

 

I'm running 350z front rims all around with 225/45 18. what tire pressure is recommended? Thanks
