Need help BOSE or Non BOSE Head unit?

Guys,

I bought a 2003 GLE with aftermarket NAV unit and I want to buy a used factory head unit to put back so the steering wheel button will work.

My questions is how can I tell if my car came with a BOSE SYSTEM or regular system?

TIA!

Simple solution

If you have the Bose system you would have a sub in the trunk. It is mounted upwards into the trunk cover.

Soo.. If you look into the car from the rear window and see a speaker cover that says Bose then you have it

You know there is a part you can buy that will allow for the aftermarket head unit AND the steering wheel controls, right?

The GLE model had the Bose system as standard equipment, but there is no guarantee the any of the Bose pieces remain after someone swapped it out.

But as for adapters to use the steering wheel controls, there are sever makers of them.

Last I checked its still two separate components, not one. PAC SWI-X for steering controls (which sucks, not very reliable), and then a PAC ROEM-NIS2 for using an aftermarket deck with Bose AMP.

I remember somebody saying to ground a brown wire to use the steering wheel controls.

ground a brown wire to get the trip button on the steering wheel working, not for the radio controls part.
