Oil Maintenance Sign

My oil maintenance sign went on when I started the car (to be clear, the text box above the steering column - not a red dashboard light or anything on my center command screen).

Is this something triggered by the oil level/quality or is it something that goes off based on a preset alert?

Thanks!

The warning is triggered by milage driven since last oil change, and it is a preset alert that can be programed in your maintenance alerts menu.

Speaking of which, my similar alert (on the display screen) got triggerred two days ago, but I had my oil change done a month ago. Does the "oil change" event reset this counter automatically? If so, does it mean that the dealer/shop did not actually chage my oil a month ago? Thanks.

No the oil change wont reset automatically, it must be reset manually.... I worked at a Goodyear for 2 years and one of the mistakes that many service personal did was not resetting the oil change reminder

So its nothing I can turn off myself? It's due for a change probably (about 6 months) so I am taking it in anyway, I'm just trying to understand what's going on...

Yea you can but I'm too lazy to give step by step right now lol

You can control it with the same button that lets you check your mph n tire pressure

There are 2 sets of reminders. One is on the amber box in the instrument cluster, the other is on the nav screen (If you have nav) they both need reset when you change oil or filter, then you set them for tire pressure check, you will see what all it does when you get into it. The same is on the nav screen under ( maintenance)

Just to reiterate what the other guys have said, these are manual reminders that you set yourself and reset yourself. Nothing to worry about.
