VDC off and brake light keep coming on

the last week or so these lights come on when I start the car and eventually turn off- I called dealership and they said it usually means brake fluid needs replacing or brakes need replacing so I went to our local gas station who has very good mechanics etc... he checked brake fluid and said it was fine and asked how many miles - 46000 and he said I shouldn't need brakes and to take to the dealer- anyone had this happen?

Before you get jumped on by everyone for not using the search blah blah blah lol

From what I heard it could be the sensors off or not reading correctly? Just a thought

what do you mean "eventually" turn off?

They SHOULD come on when you first start the car, and should go back off within 10 seconds. That is normal.

Usually, if it comes on while driving and stays on it means your brake fluid needs topping off.

More than likely a brake issue. Had the same thing happen to me last year and when I changed my front brakes both lights came off

the lights go on when the level of brake fluid in the car is low. this is usually caused by the brake pads wearing down, hence requiring more fluid to fully depress them. keep in mind, when we say "top off the brake fluid", we mean TOP it off completely to the brim. Most mechanics just look at the master cylinder reservoir and if it looks close to the MAX line leave it alone. if you top off brake fluid and it comes back soon, you could have a leak in your brake lines or have some other issue.

I took it in to see if brakes were needed- said they were at 50%- may take it tomorrow to see if they can run the computer on it- I didn't realize it needed to be topped off- may run by first and get them to do that instead of running it thru computer...

This, but if you have a leak anywhere past the master cylinder you would notice through brake feel!
