Whining noise when decelerating

Having some trouble with my 2012 Maxima SV and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. Getting straight to the point- the car makes a whining noise when decelerating... It typically begins when my decelerating speed reaches 40mph. When I first got the car is was great as the aforementioned whining noise was none existent. I want to say the noise started around 4,000 miles (has less than 8,000 miles now). I've already taken the car to my local Nissan dealer, but the service tech told me the noise was completely normal, which I highly doubt.

I'm certain its the CVT- as when I shift it into neutral and begin to decelerate the noise disappears. I bought the car brand new in hopes of avoiding these types of issues... I really like my new Maxima, but this whining noise is definitely a deal breaker. If anyone else is experiencing this issue or can provide some insight please share...

These cars are not built like old Nissan's, my 2013 got a new engine at 3800 miles. I wouldn't believe any mechanic who says what your are experiencing is normal. Look for TSB's and ask around

Good luck

im not a mechanic or anything but why would you shift to neutral and begin to decelerate... this may be your problem right there...

Ive had this problem since 19000 miles (at 30k now) it's a problem with the CVT fuild. There's 4-5 different threads about it. I'm too lazy to link them but you might new CVT fuild

Many ppl would do that as a way to try and save on gas, especially if your on 'fumes'. But our manual specifically states it's bad for the transmission to operate the vehicle in neutral or anything other than D/R. That is the problem right there.

Guys Ill tell ya, read ur manual, front to back. It's there for a reason.

Allow me to elaborate... I don't shift into neutral every time I decelerate. I've only done this a few times to see if the car would still make the whining noise when the engine and the transmission were disengaged from one another.... and of course it didn't.

I've heard about this too... but my Maxima has less than 8,000 miles on it. Think I'd be able to get Nissan to cover the cost of the transmission fluid flush? Its still a brand new car... that's the least the could do right? I'm going to reach out to Nissan Consumer Affairs in hopes of getting this issue solved.

Not possible. I made 3 reports on it and they said it was the fuild every time and it's wear n tear from my driving? Maybe if you keep making reports they might help you? :/
