Have 2001AE manual transmission. 5 speed no traction control

Idle started fluctuating and there was a burning smell.

I assume IACV and ECU are fried

P505 Idle Air Control System
P1320 Distributor signal interrupt
P1448 Vacuum Cut Valve 2. Vent control Valve

Q: How do I match up my ECU with one from a junkyard?
What numbers have to match? Or what car specifics?

Q2: I assume a used IACV is not a good idea?

 

Another option for a blown ECU is to replace the STA509A mosfet that controls the IACV, I got a replacement chip on eBay for $15 and that fixed the ECU 100%. Much cheaper and no worries about reprogramming keys or finding exact match ECU. If you decide to replace the ECU instead, make sure you use the same exact part number.

I wouldn't risk a used IACV, these things just don't last long and fail, so if you pull a 12 year old IACV from a junk car chances are it ain't gonna last very long unless you're lucky...

 

If youa re getting a used ECu like i did, make sure the Large number matches. That is the key, but it you can get an exact match that is always best.

edit: also it is a pain to get teh ecu out and back in, well worth having the shop/dealer do it. You will need to go to the dealer to do the reprogram.

 

See....this is where it gets confusing. I have spoken to 3 Nissan Techs and they have all said the same thing. No such thing as matching numbers. There is no Identical numbers. Techs told me to make sure that ecm has the same characteristics. Example: California or Federal. traction control/no traction control. automatic or manual transmission. my car has had 3 junkyard ECM's. this last one I just replaced was a California emissions and not Federal. I have a Federal Maxima. Lol....go figure. Car still ran but with ses light on. just make sure it has the same features for your car.
