Replaced my cabin filter

I thought this job was going to be a piece of cake and take about 10 minutes or less. If you're a sizeable fella like me be prepared to be frustrated.

It took me several attempts and 3 anger management breaks before I finally got the old one out. Mine had not been changed in 60k miles and it was dirty.

The hardest part for me was trying to comfortably fit my wide head and shoulders in the passenger footwell so I could began the process. Good luck to anyone who does this job on their car.

I have just recently found out about the cabin air filter existence and decided to change it while suspecting it has never been done on my 2011.
I found a video by the company filterheads and purchased one from them - granted they shipped for free to Canada.
I prepared myself for the worst, cause the location of the filter on the 7 Gen is very uncomfortable.
Installed it last Saturday, and surprisingly, it took me about 10 minutes - not as bad as I expected. I moved the passenger seat as far away from the dash as possible to give myself more room. The hardest part for me was to take the old filter out from its bay (indeed it was still the original one and pretty dirty already). I also used a "flashlight" app on my phone to help me see what I was doing

Took about 10min for me as well. Ripped the factory one out, so it was practically destroyed when it was removed. The new one was a bit of a challenge because I had to kind of "fan it" to make it go in.

Benefit of doing this for a living... Takes me about 45 seconds to do. Now, the '12+ Quest... that's a PITA.

I believe they recommend changing this annually. The worst part about this is when you rip the old filter out, all the dust and dirt that goes everywhere.

I believe you can also remove your glovebox to do this install as well. It's a much longer process but may help some of the bigger dudes who have trouble contouring their bodies.

Recommended every 15k or 12 months. You can get them on Amazon fairly cheap.

Where are you getting your filter at? I looked in the catalog the other day when I was getting oil and air filters and it did not list a cabin filter for 12. So I assumed it did not have one that could be changed.

Removing the glove box and the plastic molding makes its easy to get at the filter. The filter doesn't just slide out either. The best way to describe it is trying to fit a 12x12 filter in a hole designed to fit an 8x8 filter. But it folds like an accordion so it's all good.

The Cabin Air filter at Autozone is STP # CAF1848P and it costs $ 15.99

The STP SA4309 is the engine air filter, when you compare the two products the engine air filter should - by content and design - be the more expensive of the 2 filters. Go figure?

Great info

My dealer always wanted $95 to do this, never thought of it as really needed. After reading this thread I decided to try replace it, been 5 years since I purchased my Maxima. Needless to say it was packed with dirt, etc. thanks to the info on this thread took me 15 minutes for the whole job. Went and did my wife's 2011 Rogue too. Will now make this a yearly maintenance item.

Funny you mention that! I have a 12 quest now instead of the maxima. I didn't think it was that bad. Not the easiest for sure but it went right in. I was ready for a long fight

I miss the maxima, but the quest is fantastic.

Anyway back on track. I ordered a 3 pack of these filters off of amazon I think it was about 40 bucks total, that was for 3
