First Oil change/Tune up
First Oil change/Tune up
Well it is time for my first oil change/tune up. I am doing it at 3000 not knowing exactly what was used before since I bought used.
Should I go to a dealership and get that Ester Oil put in? And doesn't that last 5000 miles or more?
or
Should I just go to any quick oil change place and get premium synthetic?
The car is at 60,000 miles, a used 2009 SV Premium... any other things I should have done or looked at?
I know this had probably been brought up a million times but I wasn't having luck with the search function.

I try to change my oil every 3500 miles or so, if I'm close or a few hundred miles over it doesn't really matter. As for oil I'm partial to Castrol, Valvoline or Havoline. Another thing you should do at that mileage is replace your cabin filter, for me it wasn't a fun job but it was definitely needed as my old one was very dirty.
Most people here either change the oil themselves or have the dealership do it. If you want to change it yourself then Mobile 1 is an excellent choice but get a Nissan oil filter as they are better than anything that Walmart offers. I have my dealership change my oil because I get it done for no cost. They use Castrol synthetic blend and change it every 5000 miles. You are at the milage that your CVT transmission oil should be drained and filled. Do not do a flush, drain and fill only. The engine oil and cvt oil can is an easy DIY project and there are instructions for both in the DIY section of this forum.
I'm not sure how I'm going to be changing it but I just got my maxima @ about 32k miles. As soon as I got the car I got the oil changed at the dealer. It was $28 and included a wash and vacuum.... And the dealer has a nice little waiting area with a theater... Check out your local dealer might be more convenient.

I bought my car in Kansas and got free oil changes for life, (no longer offered now). Then my job moved me to California and after completing the 1600 mile drive I found a dealership and had it changed at a cost of $40. Not a bad price but being that I have 2 filters and 10 quarts of oil. I know I have at least 2 more oil changes in my future sometime.
