VLSD axle scoring?

Anyone ever see this before or know what caused it?

The diff has no play in it. And from what I can see in the FSM, the scoring is in between the axle and the viscous coupling part of the diff. (making that part of the diff trash)

The passenger side axle outer CV went right before I found this on the driver's side. It's back together with another set of axles to hopefully get me buy for a little while I repair a spare trans. For now it's working ok with no grinding noises or anything.
