Question about reading the ATF dipstick

When I checked my ATF after driving the car for 5 mins and leaving it running, the pink fluid was below the "hot" level on the dipstick. When you check the ATF dipstick you should be able to see the pink fluid between the "min" and "max" markings. When I checked, the pink fluid was below, however, it was wet between the "min" and "max" markings. Should I add ATF a little at a time until I can actually see pink fluid between the markings? I'm afraid of overfilling it. When you add ATF, should the engine be turned off.

There are two markings on the ATF dipstick...cold and hot. If you've only driven your car for five minutes, use the cold range reading.
