Horrible gas mileage issue

I have a 02 auto max with 85k miles on it...only recent jobs done has been transmission fluid drain/refill, NWP spacers added, and alternator belt replacement. Ever since, I have been getting very bad gas mileage! since my last refill, I have burned 1/2 tank and only travelled 64 miles, this is beyond insane!!! Any suggestions out there? I've searched threads and haven't seen any situations with this degree of bad gas mileage.

I've never heard of it that extreme, but MAF is usually the culprit. It's also going to toast what's left of the cats.

Are you sure the tank isn't punctured lol.

Do you have a vac leak after the spacers not being done right? Replace your 02 sensors too.

Yes, whoever did you spacers didn't do the job quite right ..... just read your own posting and it's obvious.

I thought of that, but if there was a leak of that magnitude wouldn't at least a code be thrown? My OBDII doesn't reflect any problems

When I had a f7cked up spacer installation I had air leak and car would stall but nothing gas mileage related. Turned out my torque wrench was broken

the piece behind the steering wheel is the cause of it. maybe a leak or sensors

Wouldn't a vacuum leak cause the car to idle funky or stall...because I'm not having any of those problems

Sticking calipers? After a drive, get out and touch your wheels. The sticking caliper's wheel will feel alot warmer than the rest.

What's the name of the part you're referring to? Nice rims btw

Had very similar issues with my 96 se. Changed the MAF sensor and replaced o2 sensors and fuel filters. That made it a bit better.

Those are very nice wheels. Looking for the same ones for my 03

If you are sure there are no fuel leaks and no one is siphoning your gas then top three possibilities for MPG that bad...

1. Clogged cats.
2. Stuck calipers.
3. Bad MAF.

In no particular order. Get all three checked and as someone else pointed out the bad MAF and clogged cats can be related. It is possible you have a bad MAF without throwing a code, less possible you have an air leak as that would show up in the performance and more likely to throw a code.

BTW...you never really mentioned any changes in performance.

Aside from a 2-3 automatic tranny slip(bought TransGo Kit), that's getting better with the warmer temps here in Houston, the car accelerates fine....I barely touch the pedal and she's humming. I'm going to fill up again today and recalculate the mpg, hopefully it's not as bad as initially stated

At least check your brakes after doing that. It's an easy check. If you have a stuck caliper they will be almost glowing red.

The part name is "JJubert", just messing with you. It has to be a leak, if there are the brakes like others have mentioned the brake smell will tell you, if that's not it, you have a to look at fuel filter etc

Just got back from a crawfish boil, checked for almost glowing caliper or an irregular scent of some sort and nothing...I calculated my mpg and came up with 14mpg....still bad nevertheless, guess i'll change maf and o2 sensors and call it a day. Thanks for all the input guys it's well appreciated!

With a sticking caliper a physical inspection is better than a visual one. Glowing red and smell indicates a severely stuck caliper. A mildy stuck one will not be as noticeable visually. Solution? Touch......each....rim.
