Am I getting the dealership service run around?
Am I getting the dealership service run around?
Brought my car in for service for half of the brake light LEDs out in the spoiler. Upon arrival they tell me the spoiler was an aftermarket part and not under warranty, but they ordered it installed it when I bought the car new. Should they be responsible regardless of whether it was an aftermarket part or not they installed?
Check your paper work on the install. If you don't have it the dealership should. The paperwork should have a part number for the spoiler. If it's Nissan OEM then there should be a warranty but not sure for how long. If its an aftermarket product then the dealership would only warrant the install for a short duration and the manufacturer would warrant the product.
Not sure why they installed an aftermarket part, the dealership didn't have an answer.
I put a complaint call into corporate and expecting a call from regional tomorrow.
Just went throuhh my paperwork when I purchased the car and on my "Items Owed to Customer" says Rear Spoiler $465.00
Just checked out Nissans price and it's $385 on their website. No F'n way I paid almost $500 for an aftermarket part.

I think they may be referring to parts not original to the car are not warrantied for the 3/36 manufacturers warranty and come with whatever warranty a Nissan part has.
Very good point...as my 2010 was built in 12/09 he could just be out of the 3/36.
Was the spoiler purchased /installed in 2011 ?
What I meant was that since the spoiler is not an original item on the car it may not be warrantied under the 3/36 manufacturers warranty and would be warrantied just as if it was installed on any used car.
The warranty would then not be the Nissan 3/36 but whatever the dealer gives for a warranty on parts and labor which is probably 12/12 if that.
So while the spoiler is made by Nissan it didn't come factory installed so it has the same warranty as any individual part would and not the 3/36

Regardless if it is a Nissan OEM spoiler, which it most certainly should be, or an aftermarket product that was installed by the dealer they should cover it under warranty. The car was sold new with that spoiler and you have every reason to expect an OEM part and for it to be covered under the 3/36 warranty. That's a load of bull.
What does that part end up costing Nissan $50-$60. looks like this Nissan dealer does not give a damn if he ever sells you another car. Unfortunately too many of them seem to do business in this manner.

It probably not even OEM for the led's to burn out so quickly. I don't think they would make the mistake of saying it is not oem. It would not surprise me at all if they sale you aftermarket. They would make more $ from aftermarket than oem in this case. Were talking about the dealer here. Maybe if you can find your salesman you can get this handled quickly.
I think when you dig deeper the dealer is going to tell you that even an OEM spoiler that is not installed at the factory does not have a 3/36 warranty.
Technically any part added to a car ( didn't come from the factory) OEM or not is an aftermarket add on and think that is what the dealer is trying to telll you
I do think it should be warrantied though and the reason they are giving you a hard time is they ( THE DEALER) have to eat the cost. Nissan is not going to pay labor/parts to fix a part that was not on the car when it left the factory.
The dealer marked the part up and charged you labor, they own it, not Nissan
If the spoiler was factory installed Nissan replaces the part and pays the dealer for labor.

It should still be covered. My co-worker has an S which didn't come with puddle lights. The dealership ordered and installed the Nissan puddle/exterior security lights for him after he purchased the car. Two of the lights went bad and they replaced them with no problems. The OP is just dealing with a crappy dealership.
You never said that before, that changes everything. Aftermarket and OEM can mean two different things.
Technically any part not of the car when it leaves the factory is AFTERMARKET.
They charged you more than a factory spoiler costs from the factory and installed a non OEM part, pretty shady
My spoiler said $380 on my window sticker and since I got 8 thousand off the MSRP it was much less.
Good Luck

I have been selling cars for 3 years now. You are getting jerked around. You paid more than the cost of an OEM spoiler. They should help you out. If they installed it, they need to fix it. The car is under warranty. If they did not disclose that they were going to use an aftermarket part on your car, they are at fault. I would go in, be calm, keep your cool, and be respectful. If you are polite you should get the answers that you are looking for. If they dont want to help you out, go to the GM of the dealership and express your concern. A dealerships #1 priority, other than selling lots of cars, is to keep their customers happy. Good luck to you man. I had a spoiler on my last honda, it was replaced 3 times due to cracking. Replaced 3 times in the first 3 years or 36k miles.
