Sub woofer line-level wiring and remote line
Another member asked me about how I spliced into the Bose audio system in my 2009 maxima to hook up my aftermarket sub. Since I was taking the pictures anyway, I figured I'd share them with everyone.
Quick disclaimer: This is just the way I hooked my system up, I'm not responsible for anything that might happen to your car as a result of this post. These images are for reference only. If you don't feel comfortable with any of this, I'd suggest having it done by a professional.
I own a 2009 SV with nav and tech packages, wire colors may vary depending on year and packages.
I followed LVleo78's write up to install my system, so I won't go over all that stuff here again.
I installed a Sound Ordnance B-8P sub. It's an 8" sub in a bandpass box with a built in amp and line-level converter. I got it from Crutchfield for around $100.
For my particular car, here's the colors of the speaker hook ups:
Driver side rear deck speaker:
Pink = +
Blue = -
Passenger side rear deck speaker:
Brown = +
Red = -
Here's a picture of the location I made my splices:
To hook up the remote wire, I tapped into the remote wire for the bose amp. For me it was a green wire with silver stripes:
The green and silver wire was found in the harness that plugs into the passenger side of the bose amp (mounted to the underside of the rear deck between the 6x9's)
Finally, I opened up my sub and de-soldered the posts on the control **** for the "level" ****. I ran a thin wire back up to the front of my car and attached the **** in one of the open panels. I had to use a dremmel to clear out some of the plastic in the back side of the plastic panel I was installing the **** into, and then I used a center punch and drilled a hole in it from the back. Here's pictures of the whole setup.
Doing this allows me to control the "volume" of the sub while I'm driving.
Hope this is helpful. I'd recommend this sub. It's got a nice crisp sound that plays nicely with the bose system.
