Oil Pressure Indicator

Ok, my oil pressure indicator just came on yesterday. It's the one that looks like an oil can tilted with a drip. Anyhow, I thought it just meant that I need to change my oil (which I didn't think I really needed to do yet as I haven't even put 3K on since I bought it, and it had one done when I bought it). However, upon inspection of the owner's manual it says that I should stop driving the car immediately and take it in for service. Is this light just telling me that I need to just change the oil or do I have a more serious issue on my hands? I am not a car guy by any means, so please excuse the noob question.

it could be serious, especially if it's on solid. Take it in. Today. It doesn't have to be a dealer, just any mechanic you trust. Unless the car is still within warranty for some reason...then take it to the dealer and push for warranty service.

Hope it's just the oil pressure indicator above the oil pan.

Unfortunately, the bumper to bumper expired (I'm at 39K now). Would this be covered under the 60K powertrain warranty?

If your engine is toast, yes.

should be, but be prepared to hem and haw a bit to get it covered under power train if your dealer is a douche.

Ok, feeling a little silly here. I was getting the two gauges mixed up. Apparently the Oil Maintenance light is what was coming on in my center message screen and not the Oil Pressure light near the tachometer. They use the same indicator image, but I guess mean completely different things. I've only had the car three months, so forgive the idiocy!! My previous car was as basic as they come, so all these car computers are new to me.

Better a small mixup than a serious problem!

I'm old school, keep everything via written maintenance records.....don't even bother with the vehicles on-board system.

I just use the secondary tripometer... and OP you can simply pop the hood and also look under the car to see if it's leaking oil. If it's leaking oil and you keep driving it like that than the engine will blow and nissan does not(and probably wont) fix it... But you probably simply need to reset/disable the maintenance warnings.
