Autozone's New Durlast Gold CV Axles Duration

Wanted to give a notification on Autozone’s new Duralast Gold CV axles. I’ve heard bad rumors on remanufactured axles. As far as I know most auto suppliers distribute Cardone remanufactured axles.

NEW Duralst Gold CV Axles:

9722N Right (AT non LSD)

9721N Left (AT non LSD)

I first installed them 6 years ago and they lasted 58,421 miles before the left CV joint starting clicking on turns again. With a lifetime warranty I traded them in for free yesterday. The Timken seals were fine but I replaced those also for a cost of $25.

Removing those OEM axles back in 2008 was a PITA and took at least 3 hours. The right inner shaft support bearing was rusted tight to the bracket. I PB blasted it for 2 days but still had to use a chisel and hammer to separate them. I put antiseize compound on the replacements back in 2008 so they slid out with ease yesterday. It only took 90 minutes replacing them yesterday.

One tip I’d like to give is the 3 bolts for the support bearing and bracket only require 108-168 in/lbs of torque.

Most people suggested just too remove the strut’s lower bolts off the knuckle but I removed the whole strut-spring assembly. It only takes 2 more minutes removing the 3 top mounting bolts. Getting the whole assembly out of the way makes sliding the outer shafts via the knuckle much easier.

+1. Used to go through remanufactured AZ axles like underwear lol. The Duralast Gold ones are pretty nice in comparison. Only con is that I had to wait 2 business days for my Autozone to get them.
