Maxxie needs a new oil & filter change which is past due for almost 100 miles now, so I was wondering what is the best oil & filter to go with?.. better than Nissan's. I have all the service/maintenance records (all done from Mentor Nissan in Ohio) and it has always used non-synthetic. Would going synthetic be better as well? What oil and filter should I get, synthetic or not, what viscosity of oil for current north-eastern climate (NY)? If this works and as well be the best option, can I use Castrol Edge Titanium full synthetic oil and use the OEM filter? That is whats best for my bimmer but I know whats best for BMWs might not be as best for my Maxxie..

Edit: Car has 35k miles

Oh man.. Sorry guys I just was looking after posting and saw there is a thread just for this.. My apologies. I thought it would be a good question for a 7th gen cuz older cars/models possibly could have one general type that works compared to a unique type for the 7th.

Here is a little real life situation for ya...

Car currently has 3000 miles on it. I changed my own oil at around 100 or so, put in synthetic wasn't really thinking. Just got my oil changed again at the shop, and again wasn't thinking specifics, but they put in non-synthetic. Now I've heard for breaking in your engine, you should go with non-synthetic. I don't know the reasoning. BUT I know my car has gained some lag from this oil change and I'll be sure to switch back to synthetic.

Just me and mine, idk if it helps.

I did my first oil change last week prior to hearing about this whole "you shouldn't use synthetic at first" Ive always used synthetic on my vehicles from the first oil change and never had any problems. Anyway I used Pennzoil platinum 5w-30 with a mobil one oil filter. I also i have a thread i posted a few weeks back asking for opinions and someone recommended this combo and its perfect thus far!

Synthetic helps reduce lag in our cars? I've been letting the dealership put whatever generic oil they use in our cars into mine and quite frankly I used full synthetic in 6th gen the whole course of its life and it was much more peppy. Is it a good idea to use full synthetic or partial?

Can't go wrong with either of the Pennzoil Platinum oils coupled with an K&N HP1010 filter.
